Cheney shoots man in hunt error
American Vice-President Dick Cheney
Dick Cheney is an experienced hunting enthusiast
The US Vice-President, Dick Cheney, has accidentally shot and injured a man during a quail hunting trip in Texas.

The victim, named as Harry Whittington, was on the trip with Mr Cheney at the Armstrong Ranch when the accident happened on Saturday.

Ranch owner Katharine Armstrong said Mr Whittington, 78, had been taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital where he was said to be "doing fine".

According to a spokeswoman, Mr Cheney spent Sunday afternoon at the hospital.

Ms Armstrong said Mr Cheney had turned round to shoot at a bird but sprayed Mr Whittington with shotgun pellets instead.

Mr Whittington was hit in the cheek, neck and chest, but is said to be "alert and doing fine" in hospital.

A laywer from Austin, Texas, Mr Whittington was initially treated at the ranch by medical staff who normally travel with the vice-president.

The men were part of a quail hunting expedition at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas.

The local sheriff's department is investigating the incide

So from what I understand, Cheney sprayed the guy because he had sighted some birds who were in flight, and the guy walked in front of him.

Assuming that's true, is that even Cheney's fault?

Shouldn't part of gun safety lessons also include how not to get shot, instead of how not to shoot people?

As the "shooter" aren't you supposed to be aware of your surroundings BEFORE you pull the trigger???

Too bad he wasn't hunting with dubya.....Oh wait, that would leave Cheney in charge, hmmmm.....that's a tough one.

Maybe if Cheney didn't duck the military like everyone else around him, he'd know how to shoot :-/

duck the military? ::) ::) ::)

According to the owner of the ranch who was observing the hunt, the attorney walked up directly behind VP Thingy and failed to annouce his presence or alert the shooter that he had come back to the field. As Thingy turn to follow a quail to shoot the atty. was walking around him.

As did 95% of Amercains who had the ability to do so. Including our former president. He applied for and recieved the defferments, he did not go to England or Canada. I have no idea how many defferments he recieved or applied for but I would wager that his circumstance was not unusual. At the time he was not VP Thingy or Sec Def Thingy, he could not have had a whole lot of horse power back then. Even W had to get into a uniform to avoid getting drafted. I am not defending his deferment but I am pointing out the getting them was the accepted practice for people of that particular socio-economic status. My Dad was aready active and could not be drafted but, come on, anyone who had an excuse used it back then. I few did not, John Kerry for instance but he disgraced himself once he got there by going out of his way to get enough minor injuries to get sent home.

I always ask myself when I am totally for or against a person or thing, am I being objective or do I listen only to information that re-enforces my beliefs and discount any information that contradicts my beliefs. I try not to call myself a Kool-aid drinker and kow-tow to the party line but half the crap the is spouted on the big 3 networks and CNN (clinton news network) he definatley got a bend in one direction or the other.
I think that anyone who without question believes that any politician is all good or all bad needs to spend les time in fornt of the TV. Fir instance, I am so tired of hearing how bad the economy is, where is it bad, not here, everyone I know has new boat and toys and car and goes out to eat all the time. I personally justy bought a house, a travel trailer and best of all a V20. The TV tells me the economy is bad but my eyes and ears tell me that it is not so bad considering all we have been through in the last few years starting with 9-11. Maybe somebody on TV wants you to think the economy is bad? OK enough for now......next ;D
