| Knots & Glue

I have switched a couple of my reels over to Fireline. It has really good feel while trolling. Yhe one problem I'm having is the knot sometimes lets go of the snap swivel. The knot I use is the cinch knot. What knot do you guys use and should I also be using a glue? Thanks Bill Mc ;D

I wrap the line around itself five or six times, through the loop and then back through the second loop. Apply saliva and cinch down. Never had a power pro or stren braid slip yet. Good luck .

Bill I use it also - you'll love it. Put it on your perch rod also. The stuff is like telegraph wire for feeling bites. Be careful you can also cut yourself pretty easy with it and biting off the end just won't work any more. Try the 'palomar' knot - strong and easy to tie. A good diagram of both knots can be found at Dean Clifton's site - www.cliftond.com. If you haven't seen it, it is a fantastic Erie resource - good honest reports with zero sponsers and a ton of resource info and links. It's all Walleye and Perch in western Erie. Your probably familiar with alot of good sites for our area, but if not, I got a number of 'goto' sites I check regularly that I'm more than happy to share. Oh yeah - Frosty's it is!!

WG it's good to have a fellow Erie v20member on the site. I have Cliftond.com listed in my favorites. I like the new satellite photos. I'll look at the polamar knot. After Frostys its on to the round house. Bill Mc ;D

Mac Attack, For braided line Wiseguy has a good suggestion there. Also, a Trilene knot will work too. I've had the same thing happen using Spiderwire too.. line when new is kinda slick. One trick you can do as well instead of glue, is what we also do with heavy mono line. Tie your regular knot you use, then leave a little extra tag end where you'd snip the excess off. Then just lightly heat the end of the tag with a lighter or match and it will literally "ball" up. This will keep the knot from pullin loose as it gives a little more bite for the wrap to bite down on it self. Also good tip on bein carefull pullin knots tight by hand, them braid lines will cut right into yer first or second knuckle, especially when ya get yer hands wet Catch'm up! |

I use the Palomar for Fireline also. I recommend 'doubling it' and then tying.
