Default transducer creates roostertail

I sure I installed the bracket and sounder in the right place, but I'm getting a vertical roostertail right at the transom and about 6" taller than the transom. Should front of the transducer be adjusted downwards? Thanks

I would check your manual, but the transducers on my Garmins need to be parrellel to the bottom of the hull. maye you have it mounted to close to the center?
My tranducers are located @ the last notch in the hull towrds the out side ends of the transom.

Add another ducer to the other side....now you have dual roostertails - should perform much better now ;)

Sorry but could not resist! My swim platform does that, but I really don't give a sh*t! ::)

Pointing the front down slightly might reduce the problem. Most tranducers are mounted level with the bottom of the boat or 1/4" below. Chances are it's too deep in the water.
LIKED THAT Blue ;D ;D

Anytime there Tsubaki!

Seas, if you still have the installation instructions check over them carefully. Otherwise consult the Garmin website to see if you can find out more. I know those ducers can be picky for sure!

If its working correctly I'd leave it alone. Its going to kick up some water.

I bet if we had a picture we could diagnose it better. ::)

For what it's worth I just installed a Garmin 498 this weekend with the transom mount transducer and also have the same rooster tail effect.

However the sonar is working great and provides a good picture even at WOT, so I'm not concerned about the rooster tail, as long as the sonar is performing so well. Just my 2 cents.
