Default Stereo installation

I would like to install a marine am/fm/cd stereo in my 1991 V20 Cuddy over the winter. There has never been a stereo in the boat. I am curious as to where people think it would be best to install it. Would you install it "in-dash" style? Gimbal mount? Install it in the cuddy for protection from the elements?

Also, how about speakers? Where do y'all have your speakers installed? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

As a follow up to the previous questions, what do y'all do about the antenna? I have an antenna from the old Loran unit which came with my boat when I inherited it. Could that be used as a radio antenna?

Get one of those fancy ones with the remote control, that way you can mount it in the cabin and still control it from the helm.

As for speakers, if you are getting the fancy stereo, then get the Bose speakers. ;)

No you have to install a radio antenna. I have this one which is like rubber and only about a foot long which I mounted on the side of my center console which work pretty good.

I have the foot long rubber one like still, works great for me!!

My radio is in the cabin, on my V20 it was installed on the left going into the cuddy on the fiberglass part coming down from the slider.

Get remote like Lumber said!
