I have an issue with my V20 where she wants to go slow or fast. When tooling along with little or no wake, she's fine. I push the throttles forward a little and the bow goes up. (engine trimmed fully down). I push the throttles a little more and she wants to take off like a rocket. I back off, and the stern drops back in the water again. 1800 rpm is about as fast an I want to go while displacing the water and 3000 rpm is about as slow as I can go and keep her on a plane. I'd like to be able to use that middle range (like for pulling a skier.)
Yesterday evening I took the extended family (8 people in a V20 :o) out for a day cruise and we ended up pulling up dockside to a resuarant on Clear Lake (by Galveston Bay for ya'll up North). We had a table on the deck with a perfect profile view of my V20 ;D. When she sets there with the engines trimmed dawn all the way, they are perfectly vertical. Shouldn't they by tucked under a little to push the bow down? I can machine a (?) degree angle to the spacer between the jack plate and engine, but I really do not want to go to that hassle and there is the possability that it could confound the mounting geometry. Bit I'll do thatif that's the answer. Another, and right now, more attractive remedy, might be trim tabs. I've also thought about a dolefin on each engine, but I've never seen them on a boat with twins. Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Pic of boat... ![]() Thanks Ya'll Havis |

I am not sure what to say??
But I use to have the same problem with the I/O as far as getting anough trim. But after I did the bracket I have a ton of trim and it does tuck in just fine to give me a nice ride!! Maybe just run one motor when you want that mid range?? I have never had twins, and not sure how they work, but sounds like you have to much power?? Cutting one motor might be the right thing to do?

Same on one motor. Just no rocket effect. What's this about too much power? That's kind of like too much money.
I think, no, I know this had a lot to do with the extra weight off the back with not enough trim to compensate. |

Havis, I think you answered your own question. Lots of weight back there...
....and, the V-20 is rated for 7 people. That's the kind of stuff the Coast Guard auxillary lives for up here.

Seven people? I sure wish I could read my data tag. I have no idea what it says about capacity, hp, length, anything.
everyone fit pretty well, though. In addition to the two swivel seats up front, we through in 3 two person benches like the really bad asci drawing below. We had 7 adults and one 4 year old. It was quite comfortable puttering around gawking at the huge houses. I rounded up 9 class II life jackets and thought I was legal or better...oh well. Next time I can't play stupid. Luck it was a weekday: the sherrifs and CG are always out in force on the weekends. Clear Lake has A LOT of traffic. I try to stay away then... cockpit 'drawing': __________ X ( ) ~ ***124; ~ X ( ) __________ |

fillet posted this a few weeks back...www.permatrim.com or www.permatrimmarine.com. Check it out. With twin outboards this may be the style to look at ,should you decide to go with dolefins
