Default Marine Battery

OK I know I am opening a can of worms but I would like input from you guys about the replacment battery for my boat. The old one, a gel cell I believe, died all of a sudden so I used the deep cycle from my camper for now. Knowing I need a new one, I what are some of your thoughts on which one. There are these new types that look like 6 blue cyclinders molded together. Any body tried one yet?

I have minimal electrical accessories - so I just use a plain old auto cranking battery. I buy the yellow ones from Walmart - $60 - and around 1000 CCA and 3 year full warranty. Granted - I have 2 in the boat though.

Brian how long do your batts last or how often do you replace them. My batt came with the boat and I bought it in Jan 06. Dont know how old it is.

I have a VHF, Hand held GPS which plugs in to the power adaptor, **** pit lights, and a bilge pump.

i always run the plat. Advance Auto 1000cc Batt with 8 yr warranty for $58 but i run 2 in larger boats than 17 ft and 1 under 17 ft. they are top and side post, i just connect them together with side post thru a batt switch and hook the motor to one of them off the top post.
