Default Fishin report, er, short story...10-11-06

This thread is useless without pics, and I ain't got none today so backup now if ya need pics...

Left the house at 7am headed for the Chesapeake Bay with a couple friends. When I stopped to pick em up it started raining. Hmmm, no rain forcast until late tonight. It'll be OK. Buddy's ask, where's your top and curtains, I say in the shed, we don't need em. Ok's all around.

Got to Crisfield and ran the 7 or 8 miles to feeshin spot. All is good. Both guys are hooked up on rock (stripes) while I'm still cuttin bait. We feesh for about an hour and the tide falls off and fishing slows. It started to rain, a little at first, and it kept building. Here we are in the middle of nowhere with no top and no raingear for anybody and it's pouring buckets, or worse. Well, the other two guys are 60 and 75 and I don't need to be responsible for anybodys pnemonia, so we decide to bag it. At least we had our 6 rock from 22 to 26". Back to the dock in the pourin rain, hiding behind the winders with one guy in the cabin.

Boats on the trailer and I'm dropping the other guys off, when they ask, what are you gonna do. Me, I'm changing clothes and gone feeshin. And thats what I did. Changed clothes, drop the boat in seaside, and off to the ocean I go. Tried a few spots 4 or 5 miles off with not much goin on and it's getting late in the afternoon so I figure to head in and try the creeks for a speck. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I got caught in another downpour offshore, had me raingear this time though.

Coming in the inlet I notice an 18' checkmate with a 225 merc sitting in an odd place on a barrier island. It seems that this couple had beached the boat to go look for seashells but really hadn't heard of this little thing called the tide. They was almost high and dry, in an area where they may not have been seen for a day or two, with no radio or cell phone. I eased on over and threw the guy a line and pulled him off. They were some very happy people to see me, let me tell ya.

Feelin good about myself, I figure I'm still gonna find me a nice speck. I find a nice lookin spot back in the creek and bam, fish-on, first cast. Dang it, 26" rock. Repeat three times. I guess the stripes have invaded my speck hole. Gettin dark now, and wife been good enough not to call cell phone so I figure no need to stay out forever and head for the barn an what might I find...another poor bass-turd adrift in the bay. How the heck his prop fell off we'll never figure, but I towed hin back to the dock and got another heart-felt "THank YOu." That was enough for me.

Anywho, I caugth enough fish to have fun, got rained on way too many times, and got to put a little Karma in the bank, knowing I'll need it sooner than later. I put 110 miles on the truck today and another 55 or so on my V. Felt like I should had a big red S on the boat today.

Very good report indeed! That could'a been any of us adrift or stranded out there. Some nice fishing too.

wow, i would say that was an interesting day. sounds like the fishing is much better down your way of the coast than it is up here. not much going on around here right now. couple of flounder and small stripers

Cy, fishin seaside is slooow. Bayside is redhot and still getting better. It's almost that time of year, another two or three weeks, that I could guarantee a 100 + fish day.

Sounds like a good trip over all. Its always good to catch fish but sometimes it feels just as good to help someone in need.

Dont suppose you going to give up your spots to a neighbor are ya.

I might go out Tue or Thur next week, early in the day and back around 2, think you might be able to go.
