1985 v20 cc new owner questions

I am a proud, recently new, owner of a 85 v20 cc. It is in rather good condition overall. She is equiped with a sterndrive 2001 200 mercury saltwater. She was converted from a I/O and alot of concerns are in this are. There is some noticable flex in choppy conditions coming from the top shell and outside of transom but everything seems solid. I was wondering if i should look into this sea cast stuff but then i didnt know how i would go about doing it to an I/O transom.

Next, the boats top speed is ridiculous. According to my gps im lookin at 53-55 with two people and no equipment. Is this sane?

last but not least, the bracket the motor mounts to also has a plate that adjust vertically up and down. Im not so sure it is adjusted right either because the motor seems to "bob" in rough waters but its not due to the transom because i can see the bracket moving slightly. And its tight as can be.

Alot of questions i know but i was just curious, didnt know if these are typical things someone here has had experience with. Or maybe there is somone local who wouldnt mind a boat ride, or fishing trip while we talked some V20.

It may be possible the cap was removed during the refit and not well glued or screwed when reinstalled.
The one I'm trying to get useable on the first run did 42 at 5000rpm.
Try to explain a little better about the transom - motor situation and where the movement is. Don't believe should be any.there
Do you have a bracket and a jack plate?
Is the outboard a regular outboard, seadrive or what?

On the trailer go to your motor and tilt up, now grab the leg and lift up and down, If the transom is bad it will flex and make cracking noise.

That means new transom time!!

Now there might be a chance that after they put the bracket it on and tighten the bolts it squeezed the transom tight and the bracket is lose and needs to be adjusted??

The plate on the back is a jack plate and either they added the bracket for a 20" motor and went 25" and needed the extra highet, or they did not like the performance and wanted to lift the motor higer to help it out?

But do the transom test first and get back to us with Pic's!

Welcome to the site. As other fellow cult members have stated, Post Pics. Have concerns about the bracket moving ???, Bolts could be loose, but with 5200 on there, it shouldnt move. My boat buddy installed a bracket over the summer. The guy did all the measuring and told my buddy to install it where he marked it. My buddy Jim installed it where he was told, and after a sea run, it was determined the bracket was installed to high or low. My buddy had to use a fork lift and nylon straps to brake the 5200 free. 5200 is a seven day cure. It was only two days since the sea run and the 5200 wasnt letting go.

I will try to get some pics up, i am having trouble finding my camera. It is a center console. Previously a I/O but now has a bracket and what i think is a jackplate on the bracket. the flew is mainly coming from the connection in between the bracket and the jackplate. all bolts have been tightened and the slight bob comes from the lower portion of the jack plate. looks like it could use another set of bolts to the bracket. The max rpm im getting is 5800 and thats too much i think. It has a four blade ss prop. there are two holes in the top shell of the transom where my throttle cables and some wires run to the motor one of them has a crack in the bottom that runs to the lower edge of the shell, this is where i can notice some flexing while running.
