Mooring chain

Well getting kicked back off my mooring, again ::) This time I am going to totaly redo the new one I am being moved to. If @ high tide, it gets no deeper the 6ft, would 12 feet of chain work?

I am going to redo everything from the mooring to the pull coards ( my mooring is set up like a close line, no dingy needed, just pull her in ;D), but I'm keeping the keg as the marker, I sorta got attached to her :P ;D ;)

Never understood mooring. So how do ya get out to your V. Swim or paddle out. ??? :D

Yeah can we get a mooring 101 class going here. I don't really understand it either, although I'm very intrigued with the concept.

Well most people row out to there moorings. But the ones in my cove are all anchored in 2 places, one anchor/mooring in the water and the other about 100ft in on land. Simply stated a robe runs to the mooringand back to the land in a loop, so the boat is attached to the loop and is pulled in and out as needed.
BUT, what I just found out, unilike the mooring I am on were I just attach a clip to the front and let the boat sway with the wind/tide The one I am moving to I need to keep the bow facing the ocean, as a few boats have sunk there because the on a NE wind the stern faces the sea, but the swell rolls in and floods the transom, sinking the boat :o :o :o :o :o
So with a 20' transom I'm not to excited about that ::)
Can you say Bracket Project in my near future ;D
Alright, I need to go buy the chain now, So I'm going to roll the dice and grab 12 ft (this will run from the sea anchor to the rope and marker in 6ft of water)
I'l try and take pics and hold a seminar later ;D

I'm fixin to have to install something like that for when I keep the V at the dock.
At low tide there is about 6 feet of mud between the dock edge and water, so can't have a steep v tied to the dock, it'll list too much for comfort.
I've got to measure the water depth downstream from the dock just far enough away to be able to attach a rope to be able to pull the boat to the dock for boarding.
Keep us posted what you do to give me some ideas.

Well I went down to the new mooring location with all new chains and shckles, figured it would be a easy job. All I had to do is follow the current rope/chain to the Boiler Plate that was being used as the anchor, undo the current rope/chain and attach the new, simple right ::)
holly Cluster $%%^^%$# :o 3 hours later, two abanden lobster pots, boat trim and multiple inknown misc items and all of this rope :o tangled and noted up all around the location

The tides came way up, and visibility went from good to about 2 inches. *:-[ I finaly find the main rope, dig about 3 feet into the muck/sand and find out there is no eye to attach the new chain to. Seeing I can only hold my breath long enough to get down there and work for a few seconds, I have a freind, "worse Mate" who is going to get his tank and dive on it today.
The only plus thing is after untangling all the rope I did make out with a few nice ropes ;D

Good News ;D WE rented a tank, and after about 1hour under water we have connection!! ;D ;D
We will finish hooking it tomorrow after fishing, but the hard part is over!

I've used that system to moor my boat for a few days at a time. I've always let it vane into the wind so the bow takes any wind driven waves. I also used SScable for my shore line so motorized dingys couldn't chop the line if the hit it.

What kind of bottom paint do ya use?

Re; amount of chain. More is always better.
