| open for comments - V20 - 225 Honda

I bought my 1988 V20 fisherman center console about 8 months ago. It came with a 2004 Honda 225hp motor. The prop is a SS FOUR blade 14 1/4" by 17. Wide open it goes 44mph (GPS) and is turning at 5500 rpm. Seems to me that it should do better than that. Get about 3 mpg. Any comments or tips would be appreciated. thanks |

there are a couple of members that have 200's on their boats and get close to 50mph, I've got a 150 and can get near 40 out of it w/ a stock 3 blade aluminium 15x17, you SHOULD be doing better than 44 w/ a 225. There are a couple of good links about props in the link section...or you can ask for some input from our resident propmaster REELAPEELIN....he seems to be pretty much in the know about propellers, and he's got a Honda too. Good luck

Silly question, but are you sure your GPS is set for MPH and not KTS??? 44 kts is a hair over 50mph. I top out at 49mph with 200 Merc with a t-top.

Thanks, Phester...but I'm not really a prop expert...I just read V-20.com ;)... Jackman, 44 does sound low, but the 5500 is more of an indicator to me that it's prop'd wrong...my 150 tops out at 42 mph at 6000 rpms... what's the Honda's max rpm rating on the 225?...to ''get it all'', that's what to shoot for and your top speed will result... Try these guys; http://www.ptprop.com/ They make props FOR Honda and they'll evaluate your set-up and tell ya what ya need ;) ...

MOst 150's will twist a 17p prop to about 5500 rpm's on a v-20. That Honda should be rated to turn about 5000-6000 and you want to shoot for the top of that range.. Something seems askew because w/ a 225 you should be turning that 17p prop closer to 6400 I'd guess. A 225 should spin a 21p on a v-20. Airslot

Right off the bat, aren't those 4 blade props slower on top end to begin with? I think they are made for holeshot. I wonder what a 3 blade with a larger diameter, say 15 x 17 would do? :-/ ??? I think the pitch of 17 is fine.

ok looked it up and it says that 4 blade props are as follows for Super Holeshots & Handling Props (Reduce Pitch 1-2") - 4 Blade Supercupped For Extreme Motor Elevation (Reduce Pitch 3-4") - 4 Blade I'd say you needed the same prop in a 15 pitch or just get what BR said get a 15 x 17 prop stainless
