| Transom Seal/Glass Question

So i've plugged my transom holes from the seadrive but found that I didn't fill with enough glass to make it completely even with transom outside by 1/32" to 1/16" or so. Question is do I sand the area again and lay more glass or is it acceptable to mix up some resin with filler and use it like a bondo and fill in to make it as even as possible? Wehn laying glass on glass you need to grind the glass right? |

Found answer on grinding dry glass before adding more. Should be grinding. Anyone know on the 1/32 to 1/16 fill that I need to do? |

I'd finish filling with something that had hair in it sorta like this stuff or Marine Tex.

Please not you CANNOT finish with a kitty hair product, you have to apply the final coat of gelly base only, if not you cannot sand it for a clean smooth finish. The product you have is a filler and not a finishing product.

This is a lot easier and neater than resin for small, thin non structural repairs. ny, I think we are on the same page. The finish will be a gel coat, paint, Marine Tex or the like. Again, correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is a similar product I found, note its a "jelly" no strands or kitty hair inside its spreads like butter and sands like cement but the finish will blow you away. Note the link is for a car product please find the marine grade product http://evercoat.com/productDetail.aspx?pID=46 |

Found these and they are using epoxy resin with what they call a filler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrxhGYXEjkA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE8aUP4rbkw Difference is i'm using MAS epoxy resin with filler. My question was really relating to how much is too much fairing. 1/16 to 1/32 inch is ok to fair? Moved forward with it and it seems fine. Will see when it's time to sand. Hard to see in picutures and only spot that seems like it rippled just a little was the bottom hole at the top which I may have to touch up after the sanding. |

use micro ballons with the resin you were using to make a filler. mix the resin first with hardner then add micro ballons till you have a peanut butter like mix then use with bondo paddle and let dry then sand smooth may require 2 or 3 coats but it will give you the best results. don't use marine tex it will cause issues later with your patch.
