1989 Center Console Lid removal??
This next fall I want to pull the lid off of my center console, the floor is soft on the stern side of the boat. so I want to fix it from underneath, and also I know I have a bad spot in the stringer in the front so, I would like to see the rest.
Would it be better to just cut the floor out vs. lifting off the lid? If the lid what parts have to be cut to get it off, and where is the best place to attach straps to lift it off? Thanks any help.

Yes I have seen the galleries, but just want to know how it comes apart, it looks like I will need to cut next to the transom, but just looking for more of a "cut here, here and here" response.

you need to remove the rub rail and remove all the screws, pry it out some to break away the seal and caluking, then you should be close to go.

I have/had a 1983 v20 CC and we took mine apart. First thing did was to bunch up each group of wires with tape and lable them and color code them. For example I put tape around the ignition wires and lable them ign.. Then I took different color finger nail polish and hit the wire and then the terminal it plug into and did each wire in that bunch with a different color. Now you know what they go to and where each wire goes. I did this for all wires that I needed to take loose to pull out the CC. You then need to remove the rube rail and all the screws under the rube rail that hold the boat together. With the motor you can either re move it completley or just the top bolts and all wiring, gas line, and steering cable. Now you still have to undo the main gas line filler and maybe your running lights depending on you set up. I used a big branch in a tree with a pulley attached. I took a board and put it in one of the front storage areas turned sideways spreading out the load and use the two rear cleats. It formed a triangle which I tried to center so it lifted straight out and attached a rope. Ran the rope up into the pulley and attached it to my friends truck. He started slowly pulling it up as I watched for problems. Everything looked good but thats when I heard a crack. I loooked up just in time to see the branch starting to break. Good news was it did not fall on me or the boat (did I mention use a really big branch). We hooked it to another branch and the thing just popped right out. We then pushed the trailer out from under and we lowerd it back down. This sounds like alot of work but we had the boat apart in 2 days. Now you have access to everything that might be bad in the hull. I'd be prepaired for alot more than just a stringer. You can also replace the flooring from the under side without cutting up the boat. We took mine apart to replace the transom and ran all new wires at the same time. My personal thought is you will have less time in taking the boat apart then you will trying to fix what you cut out. Sorry for the long post but thats what we did. While apart I'd give that transom a good look because now would be the time to fix it.

Thanks, I will check the transom, but it feels really solid, The boat seams to be in good shape other than the semi soft floor on the stern side but it is next to where they mounted the T-Top so my guess it that over time water has seeped into the floor. So it wasn't attached at the transom? That is where I thought I would have to do some cutting, I have access to a forklift so I will take it up slowly to see if it will pop off.
Where did you mount straps to pull the top off? Do you have any pictures? Thanks
