Default What horsepower? V20 CC

I'm looking at an '88 Center Console that needs a new outboard. I like the Evinrude E-Tecs. Wondering what horsepower I should go with. Not concerned with top speed, economy is more important. We'll cruise, fish, clam etc with the boat usually with 4 people aboard. Mainly use it in a salt water pond, trips out to ocean when conditions allow. Is 115hp too little? The E-Tec 115 369# is lighter than the Honda 115 498# and Honda 150 478# so that should make up for some of the horsepower. Any experience with a 115?

the etec 115 is strong but when comparing it to the 150 its hands down in power and torque. go with the 150 and you wont be disapointed. plus its only like 2500 difference, and you will probably burn less gas when cruising.

I also vote for the 150!! 115 will push you, but with 4 people and gear you will be at WOT and wasting gas instead of saving!!
A 150 with 4 people and gear will run better and more efficient then a 115!!

I have an older Johnson 150 and its perfect for the boat. When I hit the gas she jumps out of the water and I have a good cruise speed at around 3300 to 3500 rpm's. When I want speed it hits around 45 mph and mine is a navy issued and geared a little lower than the average Johnson 150 in that year and model. Not sure how the dealer got his hands on a Navy issued Johnson but it was still new in the box when we picked it up from the dealer. Only time its an issue is when I order parts and it has a funny vin. # that confuses the parts guy. I've been lucky and have only needed a few parts.

A lot of the guys are having good performance and economy w/the Suzuki 140 4-stroke...I would think on a CC it'd really be a great motor all round...personally, I just don't think a 115 is enough for these boats...it's gonna overwork the motor...

See the tread below about 140 Zukis...
