My 1990 V20 Cuddy doesn't have the glove box below the steering wheel.

I need to replace the helm and cable, so how do I get that out? After looking at it for several days it seems I have to remove the console. Those screws at the edge of the windshield don't look like they will come out with the windshield in place. Or, cut a hatch sized hole inside the cuddy, then replace with a hatch when done. Neither of those seem like a good solution. Am I missing an obvious solution? |

Have you tried an impact driver on the screws? They work pretty good.

I'm not sure they are stuck, I'm just not sure I can get any tool in there to get at them, without removing the windshield.

Can u cut a hatch hole below the helm? The bulkhead is three quarter ply, but the console is just glass, bout a quarter inch thick

Probably, but there is a 6" round speaker there now.

Would a rotary helm fit through that hole? |

If you have already bought the new one, pop the speaker out and see if u can get the new one in. I know I ve swapped out mine through the glove box hole. I have the teleflex NFB helm

My glove box opening is 6.5 x 16.5. If u do have to pull the console, you might be able to get the forward screws out with a right angle drive on a drill with a Phillips bit Last edited by phatdaddy; 05-26-2023 at 06:14 AM. Reason: Add info |
