| Engine Mont

I took the old engine off the boat today, and hopefully will be bringning the hull to the marina some time next week for the new install. I assume the new enginges hole pattern will differ from the current one (86 Merc to a 2008 VTec) wwhat if enything should I do to the current mounting holes in the transom? As always, thanks for your help!!!

The current holes should be fine. Nothing to worry about there...

The mounting holes should close enough, but if they are not you'll need to plug the old holes before drilling the new ones. Some use 5200 in them to seal them up, but the reccomended method is to drive a piece of tight fitting wood through the hole, and then put a layer or 2 of cloth and resin over the wood dowels to completely seal it up. You could also use marine-tex, or make a filler compound with fiberglass resin and some silica dust or cavisil and put it in the holes like a putty. Check to see if your current holes will work first before doing any structural work.

My old boat needed me to relocate the holes. What I did was get a hard wood dowle and diped in resin and droveit in, when done I just soak small pieces of mat with resin and filled to level, then covered with marine tex for looks. Easy fix! I think most motors to day are all the same. Unless you have a really old hull, my hull at the time was a 1965 with a 1973 Johnson, I put a 1990 Merc on at the time and holes were different.

See the problem is I'm not installing the motor, the marina is so I guess I can assume they will take care of the holes properly if they do not aline?

Don't assume anything with a marina. They tend to do some of the shoddiest work out there. It's all about get em in and get em out for alot of dealers out there, but not all of them are that way.
