| new tank and steering

I got the estimate today for the new gas tank and hydraulic steering. He has about 12 hrs labor to pull and reset new tank, and 5 hrs labor to install new steering. Whats everyone think, I said go ahead so dont make me feel to bad ...lol P.S. he said he has pulled tanks from the v-20's before and said its no easy task, as some of you guys may already know.

That's about like my wife asking me about a pair of shoes after she has brought them home. "So, what do you think"? "That's great" is my usual response. Bottom line is , can you make better money working and paying someone to do the work as opposed to doing it yourself (you already know the answer)?

sounds like alot Lumber. Twelve hours, at say, conservatively, 75.00 per hour is like 900.00 labor alone. You're a handy guy Ken and you've got skills, I'd try that one myself before subbing it out. I don't know what is involved to swap over to hydraulic steering. What's up with you original tank?

Phes, I would attempt to do it myself BUT I dont have a garage to do it in. for one and I dont really have the time for two. and would really like to have all done come april so all i have to do is put the boat in the water. as for whats wrong with the old one is the top around the vent is corroded and iam getting a wiff of fumes in the bilge when the tanks 3/4 to full

Ok, I have a plan to save you the labor money. First, buy an empty lot. Build a 10000 sq. ft. building on it. Do the work yourself cause you have extra time now that the wife has kicked you out of the house. There, you saved $900.

Hey Lumber, that does sound kinda high. But most work done on boats is around 75.00 an hr. And if you aint got any place ta do it in out of the cold and ya got the money I cant blame ya for letting someone else do it for you. If it aint right ,at least you can blame somebody else!
