Default FISHFINDER BAD READINGS

I have an Apelco 460 model depth/fish finder and it had been giving me false depths. Transducer is in it correct position but just the other day it was saying 11 ft of water but it actually 2 ft....I cannot trust this thing!!! also seems speed, water temps are out of whack also after calibrating. But with all this said, is there anything in the transducer that can go bad that would be responsible for bad readings. also, after a while i will get a straight line of fish all the same size and depth scrolling across the screen. any help would be great

MY APELCO READS CRAZY IF I'M IN LESS THAN 2 FEET OF WATER - ALL THE TURBULENCE, MUCK, AND PROP WASH MESSES UP THE SIGNAL - MINE IS ACCURATE DEEPER THAN 4 FEET OF WATER.

hmmm...it has read weird in alot of different scenarios and i have been checking my own depths and all comparing it to what that thing says and ever since i had the boat (came with that finder) i have had alot of suspicion that it is meesed up and i am convinced. just not sure if it could be the transducer or not.

I've got a complete 460 I pulled off my boat. You're welcome to it. It's got a new power cable. It's complete with transduscer, power cable, head and manual. Just pay the shipping. This is as is, but it might make a good parts unit.

I'd go over all the electrical connection in question to make sure they are clean and tight. Low voltage will make electronics do silly things.

Have you got the fish ID turned on? If so, turn it off and see if that helps your fish finding problem.

I have no idea about Apelco, but alot of them you can have the fish symbol turned on or off. Best to turn off. Then fish will be arches and bait will be clouds, rather than everything - leaves, logs, turtles, fish, all showing as a fish symbol.

I have no idea if your unit has it or if you have it on, so this is pure speculation. Good luck!
