Default Rod Holders

How many do you have in your gunnels? What angle are they?

I just ordered 5 30 degree stainless holders. I wanted to make sure the angle is ok.

I've been wondering about this myself. *I'd really like to know what arrangement others have used. *I'm converting to flush mounts too. *Photos would be great!
I'd like to have a rod on each side that sticks straight out, but it seems like the angle can't be too sharp if the holders are above the port and starboard inserts.

That was another advantage of takin' out the original saddle tanks...it allowed flush-mount rod holders, so now it's got 4...2 on each side, ones in back point straight back, ones mid-ship are turned out some ...it's a pretty standard set-up...

The 30 degrees IS what you want...I'm tryin' to visualize what you gonna do w/that 5th rod holder?...

Fillet, when you mount 'em be sure to use backing plates if at all possible... ;)

My guess for the 5th rod holder is what I'm doing this spring: on my full transom it will hold my bait cutting tray leaving the other four holders to do their jobs.

CT -Bingo!

I have a plastic holder in the center of the transom now, and the metal gimbal on the bait board is going to kill that thing in short order. So the 5th is a replacement. The full transom is a good place for the bait board, cause there really isnt much room off the back of the boat to drift lines, etc with the Armstrong bracket and swim platform.

I already have two perko holders in the gunnels just aft of the rod boxes. They have caps as they drain into the hull. When I add the new ones, I'll have three in each gunnel. The new holders will probably be positioned over my new rod boxes, so I'll have to cut holes in them to allow the ends to poke through.

Cliff paul - if you want two rods to stick out perpendicular to the boat, pick up a pair of rod riggers. I think Reliable makes them.
