Need help deciding on purchasing 73 V20 175 Johnson (94), The transom was rebuilt (94) with metal plate across the transom. There are crack across the top of transom. Owner said in 94 they build up transom to accomodate the larger engine and installed the metal plate. I gently place my weight 175 lbs one base on engine and heard a mild crack, did not see the transom move, the boat has been out of water since fall. Liked the layout of the boat, but not up to doing a transom rebuilt myself. Does above sound reasonable. If not any ideas on what a boat yard would charge for a futuretransom rebuilt. Any and all ideas appreciated. Txs, Currently own 17 whaler and looking for more boat for a few mile offshore, stripped bass fishing etc.

Unless you want to redo the transom keep looking!! A 175 should be able to go on a good transom without any plate!
