well after 5 months of hell and $1200+ later...my 1990 120hp force runs again! ;D ...from 3 different mechanics that couldnt fix it or knew what was wrong and charged me anyway, to buying new and used parts from ebay, to me learning from a manual and getting help from here,THT, iboats and the marine doctor...she runs again!!:)
some things i have changed or done... rebuilt carbs, rebuilt fuel pump, new rectifier, new trigger, new stator, used ignition coils, new flywheel key(sheared it cuz i didnt torque flywheel)...my tach still dont work though :-/ anyway..i just got home from going drop it in water, left it on trailer though ....runs like a champ..starts right up and sounds great..adjusted carbs to spec... i let it run for atleast 25mins or so....i was gonna sell it but after hearing it run i think i'm just gonna keep it fish it and double up on my truck payments, pay it off and then buy a new boat. gonna do some decarbing and other small things this week and hopefully by the weekend i'll have some blood and guts on deck!!

:( i spoke too soon lol brought it to the water this morning to take her out and do alil fishing before work...started her up on trailer and let warm up...then turn it off to dunk her......parked truck..came back and started her up...i was looking back at engine as i started it and noticed no water shooting out back!!!.. turned her off.....started it a few more times hoping it would start shooting water again...no deal!...trailered back home......
i'm in the middle of taking off lower unit now, taking a dinner break.. i'm guessing it was all the sand on that ramp...its a brand new ramp and its thick with sand...this water pump and housing is brand new.. no hours on it...just yesterdays running.....thats what gets me. macojoe...i'm taking your advice and selling as soon as i can!!! lol

I've had crystalized salt deposits (or maybe sand, who knows?) stop up the pisser right where the water comes out. I took a small piece of wire and pushed it out - good as new.
This happened the day after I had replaced my impeller. I took the lower unit off twice to check my work and it still wouldn't pee. That's when I decided to run wire down the tell tell. Once I did that - good as new! Then I had another motor that had the dirt dobbers in it! I just hope you are not taking your lower unit off for no reason. They aren't fun to be taking off and putting back on all the time. How long did you let it run? The reason I ask is on those Johnson 140's I had (Skools has em now ;)) it takes a while for the water cooling chamber to fill up before it'll pee. I was concerned after one had ran 30 seconds and still no pee. Come to find out that was normal. Also, on these Mercury's don't forget what BigShrimpin said about the poppet valves. It takes more time for a Mercury to pee than other brands! Good luck!

Then, with the engine off you unloaded from the trailer and parked it at the dock?
