Default Yo Hammer, lets talk deck drains...

You put the bigger 1.5" drains in the corners from what I remember and they have backflow preventers built in. Whats the deal? Do they prevent water from getting on the deck? Have you been out with full fuel and a few peeps in the back? Do you highly reccomend this product? Can you tell that your opinion is highly sought after? Should this be moved to the BS board?

Airslot, these drains are great, I might have had a drop of water sneak on by a few times. Other then that no problems. Only problem is they sit slightly above the deck (flange), so I also get some water sitting in the corner when I wash her down. Referred somone to the company I bought them from, he loved them as well.

But I also installed inline scuppers as well for back up.

This is the company I bought the drains from. They only sell to boat companies, but when I begged, they hooked me up. Super nice people.

Thanks man, that's what I needed to know. When I get to that project, I'll cut them in a little further away from the corner and take a grinding attatchment on my dremel and create a little recess so they sit just below that deck. No standing water that way. I got my rig setup right nice and I don't like when my guests get wet feet. That, and wifey and kids don't think water is supposed to come inside boat ::).

I was gonna do the same thing, patch the hole and move it forward. Thats the best way to do it, but the salt water was calling me, so I did it the way I have it. ;D

Wow you got $50 in clamps in there!! ;)

whats that gray thing? stops water from backing up?

I wish I had self bailing deck!!

Thats the one thing I hate on my boat!!
Everything goes to the bildge, and theres no pump in there cause they always seem to break on me >:(

So I just bring CB, and I have the bike pump style for him just incase! ;D

Hey Air I know it may not be the mariner best way of doing things but I had the same problem with a full tank and a couple of super models aboard as you rock back in forth water would come into the scuppers, and because my floor is so level with the water line and the curve of the drain hose that water would not flow back out fast enough until I started moving.
I plug them! just those simple toggle end adjustable types you use for the drain plug in smaller aluminum boats. I put them in before I launch and if I have any water come in from fighting fish or swimming super models I just wait until I am in gear and moving forward and pull one or the both as needed to drain the little bit of water that gets in.
Of course if I am in some nasty snotty seas or something I would just pull them and leave open.
Works great

Yeah M.J., they are inline scuppers along with the built in scupper ball in the deck drain. Clamps were costly, wanted everything double clamped so the C.G. wouldnt bust my stones.
