With the help of many people on this site, I was able to completely rebuild my V.
I purchased my boat last April and it was sitting for about ten to twelve years. I new the floor was rotten and the stringers as well. I learned a lot about fiberglass work and paint products. Overall, this is what was completed: Rebuild Mercruiser 470 New gimblel bearing New prop (14 X 17 seems to do good but I might go to a four blade) Reconstructed stringers with 3/4 plywood and chopped strand and 1708 layup schedule New floor, 3/4 A/C with chopped strand on both sides Patched all the holes from old rod holders, moved gas tank fill to the port side Installed a 52 gallon poly tank the fit except the fill line needed to be changed. Rewired everything. New dash layout and flush mounted fish finder New steering wheel Painted topsides with EZ Poxy 2 Yacht white Painted Hull with EZ Poxy 2 twilight blue KiwiGrip cream non skid I still need to install new cleats, bilge vents and a few other things on the wish list (stereo system!) I attached a photo taken this afternoon. |

I will set up my photo gallery and post all the photos from start to finish.
I should be in the water by mid June. It's nice to know what the boat looks like inside and out. The Atlantic can be a tough place to be when things turn on you. I am a fair weather fisherman and chose my days carefully but if I get caught, this V should take more than me. One person asks me if I would trade her? I did a lot of research before taking on this project. Prior to this boat, I had a "78" 17' Aquasport that was great for back bays and rivers. In the ocean, it felt very small and uncomfortable. My V feels like a much larger, stable boat that feels at home in the ocean. Another reason I chose the V is the outstanding fuel economy I can achieve with the 470. I know I could do better with a four stroke but for now, the 470 will do. Another boat I would consider rebuilding is a 20' or 22' Limestone. More rare but I love the Hunt inspired hull and Hinterhoeller design. |

Beautiful work! I look forward to seeing more in your gallery. I especially like the color of the hull you chose.
