Here are a few pics I took of my rub rail. The pics show how it was held on at the ends and the method used to combat shrinakge.
This pic shows the end of the rope to be shrinkwrapped, and a screw with finsh washer driven through the end to combat shrinkage:
The next pic is how the end trim cap is fastened:
