Nipper: You came to the right place for advice. Weather or not you like the advice you get is questionable. ;D

MJ is our resident inhouse bracket expert and I am sure you will hear from him as to all the benefits of brackets. I dont know what the big deal is about them.

As to horse power we will need to know more about your boat, along with lots of pictures. Since you are a Newbie you will have a grace period as to how long before we receive the pictures and when we kick you off this site. LOL ;D

I have a 2 stroke and it is a great motor, but if I had to repower I would consider a 4 stroke. There is lots or room for debate on that topic. Wish you well on your repower.
