Compression Test: * I'm no experienced mechanic - *but I dont see why you couldnt test it lying there. * *If she is steady and wont rock over - *go ahead. * Verify the shift mechanism is in neutral, remove the plugs, open up the throttle, and crank her over. * I would see if you could attach some battery leads to the Starter and ground. * If you make/break your battery connection at the starter numerous times ... *the voltage arc starts to eat into the starter lug. *At least that was my experience.
Good Luck - I had an '85 90hp version of that engine which I sold this spring. Motor ran great for 20 years - with not 1 thing ever going wrong.
