well here she is!
i had a ad on craigslist saying that i was looking to buy a 100-130hp motor...this guy emails me and says..
"I have a '93 Johnson 140 you can have for free if you come get it. It has good compression and runs strong but tends to run hot. It has a 25" standard rotation shaft and include a prop. I used it often on my Chesapeake 22. I put a bigger motor on my Chesapeake so I don't need it now."
well i send him back an email saying hell yea i want it ;D but the soonest i could pick it up was this weekend....i went to harbor freight tool store this morning and got a great deal on a 1 ton engine hoist $109!!...without the net special and 20% coupon its normally like $167 with taxes....anyway..my buddy meets me at the house, i call the guy and he says motor is still sitting there to come on out!..we take off and go..... we get there and using the hoist we make short work of loading it......the guy said it was running with he took it off the boat to repower but that at certain speeds the overheat alarm would go off but if he backed off a bit or went over that speed she ran cool......he said he brought it to a shop and the mechanic said he couldnt find out why it did that...he had lower unit rebuilt and complete water pump changed 1yr ago.
other than alil corrosion on the lower transom brackets she looks to be in great shape..i was really surprised he gave this away..but who am i to question his generosity or motives? ;D he lived in a nice house on the water so i'm guessing he is not gonna miss the motor or the cash....he was just happy to have it off his garage floor :).....oh yea..that hoist paid for itself 10x over today...my back is thanking me!!
here is the model number.. could someone confirm that this is a 93 model for me.. nada leans towards a 94 model at 378lbs!.....J140TXERR...s/n G 03522499
its missing the controls and wiring harness..so i'll be needing to find those..and a lifting eye and jackplate so far...i'll get a compression check on it as soon as i can get it mounted on stand and figure how to do it without a wiring harness.
heres the pics!
