Default Re: Who's running a 200hp outboard?

Thanks, MJ

The Johnny's been acting up lately. The last time out, I was running nicely all day. Then halfway through making a little two mile run, there was a gradual decline in rpm's before dying. Tried for a maybe 45 mins. to get it going, and while on the phone w/ TowBoat, it magically fired up. It cut out when I tried to put it in gear but started right back up. Tried to get the anchor pulled so I could just rev it, throw it in gear and make a suicide run to the dock, but no joy. It wouldn't start again, forcing me to proceed with the tow. Nothing 'blew up', so it might not be a major repair, but I don't trust it anymore. I threw some money at it and did what I said I'd do: run it 'til it didn't run anymore and that's where I am now. So, I'm in the repower market for maximum reliability at sort of the minimum price.

kamikaze,
Is yours an older OMC? My motor is the '87 Johnson 175hp, but the same motor in '85 was called a 235hp. In this timeframe, OMC went from a powerhead rating to a more-accurate propshaft rating, hence the decrease in what's on the cowling. Just curious if it's the same deal. I couldn't tell what motor you had from the little pic.
