Default Re: Enough Motor

How high your scuppers end up depends some on the age of your boat. My '88 model has the floor raised 2" higher than my sister's '86 model. If your floor in the cockpit is even with the floor in the cuddy you have the raised floor.

We both have Yamaha V-6's. Hers is a 150 and mine is a 200 but they weigh the same. Her boat is definately more likely to take water in the suppers than mine is.

How much power you need depends some on how you set up the boat. Her boat actually has a better hole shot with the 150 than mine has with the 200. That is because she runs a 17" prop and and run a 18". The motors have the same low end power. Mine just has bigger carbs for a stronger top end. If I dropped to a 17" my moter would be prone to overrevving and I would not get the benefit of the extra 50 horsepower. I still turn 5300 revs at full throttle unloaded. I mostly use my boat for family skiing so I do run a low pitch for a good takeoff with 6 or more people in the boat.
