Put it in gear
Remove the cowling
then remove the lower pans(not completely neccesary, but sure makes it easier)
next remove the bolt that holds the shift shaft under the carbs
raise the engine up some now
remove the trim tab
remove the bolt under the trim tab and the other one just in front of it, then remove the bolts along the sides of the lower unit and it should slide off.

All in all not a bad job to do, but it is a bit heavy. and can be a pain to get the splines to line back up sliding it back in.
