I had one on the Grady Seafarer I had. (I still miss her... :'( ) Anyway, it was neat to have as it was rail mounted on the end of the pulpit, so I didn't screw up my night vision with it being too close. The remote buttons can only give you so much aiming control on a moving boat. A handheld spotlight is going to have way better beam control. You could sort of leave it on and pointed down to try and see crab pot buoys, but not to see where you wanted to go. Other than that, it was only turned on briefly to find unlit markers, etc. and get your bearings, but a handheld would accomplish the same thing.
