1987 Evinrude 140 Tilt motor replacement

Looking at the SELOC manual - it seems like to replace the trim motor itself is pretty much an unbolt and bolt the new one in place kind of deal.

Am I missing something here? I've got the new motor sitting at home (2000 miles away) waiting for me when I return next weekend to replace it. Hoping to get the trim/tilt going for the Memorial weekend.

It's not quite as easy as it sounds though. You will probably want to remove the starboard side engine support bracket so you can get to the rear bolt on the trim motor. Some say they can get to it with it all togetehr, but I was never able to.

I had to do that on my 110 hp and it was off the boat at the time.

haha....good one ;)

My concern was more with if I have to drain hydraulic fluid, or any special issues with seals, etc. for the removal and reinstallation of the motor.

THanks everyone.

So went to replace the tilt motor, and found out that I had to remove the entire engine from the transom to get to the back fastener on the tilt motor.

So....I decided to have it installed over at the local marina and she's working great now. I didn't realize how quiet these motors can be - my old tilt motor was LOUD compared to the new one.

Marina quoted me 3 hours labor and only took and charged me for (2), so it looks like I found an honest shop to deal with as well.
