Deck/floor Paint
With everyone sending in pictures, I seem to be the only guy with a scratched, skuffed up and peeling floor on this site.
Is this paint simply applied by paint roller after a good sand job. Any cheaper then the hull paint I priced at $200.00 a gallon. I hope so !! : ) Mike. |
Re: Deck/floor Paint
i used epoxy garage coat finish from lowes in light gray. it was under $20 a gallon. didn't use but 2/3 of a gallon and i rolled it on. Here's the boat floor it's in and now 3 yrs later no one scratch and the best part that paint is gas and oil resistant.

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Yo School,
Great thinking on the paint idea. Figure garge paint would only be good on concrete. But hell if it works and mucher cheaper, I can do that !! : ) Thanks. Off on a lead for a used hatch cover. : ) Mike. |
Re: Deck/floor Paint

Re: Deck/floor Paint
MJ like the looks of that stuff, how can you spray it on like they say with the rubber granules in it, or do you sprinkle ithem on after or something
|
Re: Deck/floor Paint
Macojoe,
I checked out the stuff you put on your floor. Super great stuff. There is a local guy that can spray it on, but wants 400.00 to do the job. To much for me. I'll do it myself. Again, you just sanded and hand rolled it ?? No primer needed ??? Also, I noticed how thick it was, did you have any problems installing your deck covers back in place because of the thickness ??? Mike. |
Re: Deck/floor Paint
Did this fill in all cracks? Also after use did the stress cracks reappear?

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Hammer, MJ cut his deck-lids outta Starboard like I did, so any snug fits are taken care of w/the saw-blade ;)...''Little trim, please...'' ;D ;D...

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Just before applying the floor paint, fill the bad stress cracks with 5200. I haven't done it, but it seems like it might hold up??

Re: Deck/floor Paint
I filled all screw holes with bondo and in the cracks between the floor tanks I used marine tex, sanded good and cleaned the deck with Xylene, then rolled it on.
I did not paint the inside lip of the boxes so that the covers fit just fine. I saw that you could spray it, but I not set up for that and besides it takes like 15 min to paint the deck, and after 1 hour do it again. the next day you good to go!! Before this I was going to have the deck done with LineX That would fill all cracks and be waterproof and slip proof, Butthey wanted $800 for the deal and there was no way I could afford that!! But if you know any one in the bissness that would bethe way to go, and never worry about it again. |

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Question: After amking repairs to my hull on my v-20, and wanted to reaint the hull with this top secret paint. Would it simply be dewaxing the hull, sanding the hull, primer..then top Secret hand brush paint on. The result looks like a professional spray job ??
My boat will be on jacks this week, so deciding if I should just do the basic hull repairs or go for it and sand the entire hull and reapaint her, but dont wont a paint job result where you see streaks and brush and roller marks. Has anybody messed with these new types of paints yet and can give me any input. |
Re: Deck/floor Paint
spray it! don't roll nor brush it ??? Are you planning on doing it all in a week? What's the temp there, the glass work won't work in the cool / cold and the paint won't either.

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Skools. Did you just add one bag of granuales and put two coats on, ???or did you add extra on second coat?
|
Re: Deck/floor Paint
i added nothing to my paint as my floor in that boat was already so rough it would cut your feet it needed to be smoother. that was only 1 coat. you could add large playground sand on top of a wet 1st coat and paint on a thinned second coat.

Re: Deck/floor Paint
Capt.Bent,
Have you had a chance to use the sanited or top secret products ?? Interested in doing the hull in it. |
Re: Deck/floor Paint
Here is a reply from one of those paint companies.
Hmm, a rubber paint on a hull ??? Should I or shouldnt I ?? I am filling with West System epoxy and mesh cloth- For a permanently waterproof, flexible bond: Prime w/PermaFlex Patch using the LRB/TAV Surface coat w/PermaFlex Can this product be applied to a fiberglass hull- Yes, 2 coats PermaFlex applied @ 240 sq ft gal per coat Does the hull need to be dewaxed- Yes & the fiberglass needs roughened up, see below Can it be applied by a roller and brush- yes Do you see brush marks after it drys- No, not unless you work too slow Price for gallon- The catalog of Sample Packs, products, container sizes, colors w/pricing & on-line order form @ http://www.sanitred.com/productprice$.htm Fiberglass Application: 1. The first thing you would do is prepare the substrate. Meaning remove any loose crumbly substrate, make sure the substrate is clean, dry, free of any previous applied products, and foreign matter. For best results fiberglass should be sand blasted. This will give the best surface texture for a life-time adhesion and maximum durability. If sandblasting is not applicable, one may try to replicate that surface using coarse sand paper. 2. Prime the substrate with 1 coat of PermaFlex (240 sq ft per gal). 3. Patch and profile any joints, seams, cracks, holes, etc... using LRB/TAV mixture. 4. Topcoat using 1 coat of PermaFlex or PermaFlex-AL (240 sq ft per gal). PermaFlex-AL is our extreme UV resistant outdoor topcoat (above water only). PermaFlex is used as the topcoat below water. Re: Deck/floor Paint
Decided to go with the other brand: Top Secret. They stated that it will look like a spray finish when completed.
Guess I'll find out. ;D |
