Yo Blue_Runner....

About that V-21...Do you get any water backing into the scuppers on your boat?

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

No, hardly at all. Mainly just when its tilted from everybody standing on one side in the rear.

So far so good on that - haven't had a problem. I think its high time that I inspect all of my thru hulls and the scuppers though. I'm getting some water in the hull - not much at all - but it bugs me and I want to find the source.

BR, check all around under your rub rail, there may a gap that water is getting in. I've seen it on another v20, would take on water and couldn't find out where it was coming from. On this boat it was starboard side around the helm.

BLU:

IF I EVER GET THAT V-21 I WILL REPACE THE PLASTIC THRU HULL FITTINGS WITH BRONZE CHROME ONES AND ALSO THE BACK HATCHES, DO YOU KNOW WHERE TO GET THEM? (THE HATCHES)

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

What about with full fuel and a couple big guys jigging over the stern? I think that the decks are a little higher on the 21. Mrs. Airslot has hinted that maybe I should get a newer boat...who's to argue with a woman like that.

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

Oh yeah, meant to tell you this too - there are scuppers on the splashwell on each side of the motor. They are the flaps and they let alotta water in the splashwell when sitting still. That bugs me too, so I'm thinking of replacing those with something that doesn't let water in.

Here's a shot and you can see the scuppers in the splashwell. The scuppers for the deck come out on the sides of the boat.

This pic was taken when the old 150 was on the boat:

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

Water in the splashwell is no big deal. I don't like wet feet....

IN my eyes, I don't want a bigger boat. The V-20 is affordable to operate in a relative sort of way. It's small enough to get into skinny water and big enough to fish offshore on nice days. It has a big cockpit. It'd be nice if the cabin were a hair bigger but...If I could go fishing I'd probably quit worrying about it.

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

I've been in some crap weather with a full load and 3 decent sized dudes bumbling around back there and never remember saying, "dang my feet just got wet".

I'm right there with you Slot - I like the size and economy too. Fairly easy to trailer and launch and like you said it can fish big or small. Also, you are right the deck is a couple of inches higher, which does eat into the freeboard somewhat. One of the tradeoffs I guess.

You going down for work? Or just to lay around and be lazy for a couple weeks? Either way sounds like fun.

AS:

I'M TALKING TO JEB BUSH TO KEEP YA AWAY FROM FLA TILL I GET MY V-21, ISNT' THAT A COINCIDENCE YA COMING DOWN NOW? WADDA YA THINK BLUE?

ANYHOW, BLUE I'D REPLACE THOSE SCOOPER FOR THE ONES WITH A PING PONG BALL, WOULD THEY WORK?

ARE THOSE SCOOPERS ALSO FOR THE DECK?

ABOUT THE FREEBOARD, IN MY V-20 I HAVE TO WEAR KNEE PADS BECAUSE WHEN YOU WORK THE OUTRIGGERS BACK AND FORTH, YOU HAVE TO LEAN AGAINST THE SIDES AND THEY GET SWOLLEN

I think you'd better hurry ;D

Ping/pong scuppers - well yeah that sounds good I think. Although I've never done the research to see what's available other than what I've seen on this site.

The one's on the back are only for the splashwell. The ones for the deck come out on the sides, which are not visible in the picture.

BR - I get water too and I think its from under the rub rails forward of the windshield. I was out in the ocean just flying through the rolling waves, marveling as the spray that flew out from the side as the V cut through the waves. When I got to the inlet my v-berth fabric was soaked. I didn't take any waves over the windshield so it had to be the rub rail.

Also, check the valve that sucks in the water for saltwater washdown. Its accesible through the rear deck access port, next to the bilge. At least that's where it is next to mine.

Another idea, I noticed the rod holders drain into the bilge. They have these little guide tubes that sometimes fall off.

And Airslot, the fuel capacity in the v21s is 60 gallons.

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

Just pulled my thru hulls from my 86 cuddy. Two different sizes. The hoses were molded radiator hose. One cockpit drain was bronze and the other was plastic. Makes life interesting. Looking for stainless steel. Found replacement ones in nylon for $2.50 each. My thru hull holes are 1 3/8" with 1" hose. I also have to replace the one plastic floor drain. I need to find three small kids to install mine. Not much room or enough hands.

Blue_Runner 10-18-2006 11:08 AM

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

Rub rail is not the culprit. *No water in cuddy plus its had a new rail about 2 years ago and 5200 on every screw.

But the rod holders - yes I believe I am getting some water there. *Guide tubes? *Mine don't have em I don't think.

Roger on the 60 gallons...wish it was 80 though :-/

Well, if the right deal comes along here in the next month, I'll probably jump. Do they still have the in floor storage between the helm seats?

Re: Yo Blue_Runner....

Slot the storage compartment between the seats is accessible from inside the cuddy door, not a hatch in the floor. Where the legroom is in the cuddy, this area extends up under the deck 12 - 18 inches. This would be the perfect place to add 10 - 15 gallon freshwater washdown ;D

Here's one negative on the V-21 IMO - the transom hatches is really not big enough for 2 batteries, so I keep a spare in the cuddy storage I mention above.

Hope this helps. There are some pics of my V21 in my V20 gallery ::) if you haven't seen them yet.

Thanks, I've checked em all out. I'm kinda like a deer in the rut right now, all worked up over his V-21 thing. It's my wifes fault, put ideas of newer boats in my head and what not. Funny thing is, I can't find a boat I like better than mine right this second.
