Need opinions on a new trailer.

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a couple of options for trailering my V-20. The first option is to buy a brand new 3,000# Galv bunk single axle with brakes for $1,899. Or buy a used 2001 tandem axle aluminum bunk with brakes for $1,500. I'm perfectly fine with the single axle idea since all my towing is done within a few miles from the house. What would be more apealing to a buyer next year when I try to sell the boat, a brand new trailer or that 2001 aluminum bunk trailer.

I would go aluminuminum dual axle. *Save weight and the dual axle really improves the ride down the highway, in case you decide on a Key West trip this winter.

As for resale, people like BIG trailers, the new trailer won't be new next year.

And the ALUMINUM will have more resale to it than a galvanized trailer.

Everyone always wants Alum, and it will be better for resale as stated.

But there is nothing like a tandam, safer for you and the boat, better trailing, and better when you get a blow out!

Galv much stronger then Alum!! *Just ask the guys that end up with stress cracks.

Hands down Tandam Galv for $1899 is a great deal!!

I bought my Loadrite, Galv, Tandam, rollers, 4000# NO breaks for $2200

Hey MJ,

That galv for $1899.00 is a single axle. I'm not sure what a tandem would cost me here.

Well I was a single axle guy for the first 5 years of V20 life and was fine for were I went and i trailer a lot!

But What a difference it is to have a tandam!! Much better handling and stuff the the single!

I still like Brand New!! And Galv more then used Alum, But I love Tandam! :-/

Well I guess i would have to look at the Alum and see what shape its in, to decide. I would pull the tires and look at the breaks and stuff before buying, people here have spent $300+ re doing there breaks!!

If I had to redo all breaks and the guy no come down on the trailer to cover the cost, I would go with the New trailer.

But all is good or he covers the repairs by a reduction on price I guess I would go with Alum.

i know everyone says Aluminum but they crack on highway trips from the flexing i've had 2 crack and seen several crack, you are better off with the steel trailer. I have 4 aluminum tandem trailers but the boats i plan on keeping i'm putting on Steel trailers. i'm taking the 250 Wellcraft off the aluminum trailer due to cracks on it and putting it on a steel one.

I have a tandem that was under my V20 i'm selling it has no brakes but it is a 6200# trailer all aluminum with new tires and lights.

I'm sure there is good & bad in every product. I had a tandem galv the first 7 years i had this boat and changed to a tandem aluminum 10 years ago and have not had any problems. I did buy a heavy duty trailer, more than i needed, 7000 lbs. given the 2 options you listed, i would go with the tandem over the single. my normal tow is 4 miles roundtrip to the ramp. but i have trailered to the keys 5 times, 1500 miles round trip.

Galv. tandem would be best choice, but that's not one of the options you mention ... IF it's in good shape (no cracks) and brakes are clean and work good, I'd go w/the used Alum. ... :D ...

I'm gonna vote for tandem over single. Steel or luminum is less important to me than that second axle.

I agree with Air, I would rather have the extra two tires, in case one goes down......... :-/
