I love my v20

What I font understand is that there are 13 views and only 1 reply don't we all love these boats? I know I do
|
I had two great ones, wish I had another. Love em
|
Good all around boats, and better looking than most with classic, timeless style.
Real good when used for what it's meant to do. I've had 4 boats, I'd say this is my favorite. Had a 94' Mako CC before the V21, couldn't hardly turn around without tripping over something. Had big console, not enough room. |
I miss my old V.
When I find the right one......I'm going to buy another one. |
I loved my V 18. Never wound up getting my own v but I did fish on my uncles a bit and I liked it. I'm happy with my 22 WA but that's a different boat all together.

I'm with y'all. Currently own 3 V-20 hulls. Working on getting my place situated where I have maximum storage and work space so I can start doing bigger projects instead of just flipping old hulls. I love seeing others hardcore, cap off, full blown restos. We have some really beautiful examples on this site and some really great members. Would like to see us take it to the next level and see what truly innovative mods and changes could be done to our boats to make them stronger, even more usable, and correct the few small issues all of them seem to have. I've thought about cutting the transom off, extending the stringers, and having a fully integrated, molded in engine bracket/swim platform with flotation instead of just a bolt on model. Also thought of designing one with a smaller cockpit with larger front deck, just two seats further aft, with a more offshore race design. Every time I go out I get compliments on mine. People say they used to have one and wished they never got rid of her, she was the best boat they'd owned, but they traded up to something new and it's no where near the same. For ride, versatility etc. you really have to trade up to a more high end boat these days or a fully restored example of a classic from 30-40 years ago to get better in my opinion.

Hey Steplift, my old V is also a '78. Last week we were down at Harkers Island for a few days and every where we went some one was saying man what a cool boat, what is it? what model is it? Kind of makes all the sweat and $$$ more worth it.
Also fished 2 full days, some running, mostly trolling...filled up and only held 24 gallons.:clap: |
I liked mine at the time! But out grew it in the places I was going. Wish I had one now!!

I am incredibly fond of mine. It's been there for some of my happiest times, and I hope to have it and use it 'til the day I cross the bar.

love mine,
wish i would have bought a dual console or a cuddy instead of the center console though. center console was the right choice at the time but my fishing habits changed and id love to have more room towards the transom |

I have yelled it many times as I clear the rocks of Manasquan Inlet at first light...I Love My Boat!
http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...&pictureid=959 I think they are one of the most beautiful boat designs ever made. They are classic like a 65-68 Mustang The way they grin at you.. http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...&pictureid=190 I've had it since '99 and have done a lot of work on it. I am very sad because she is in my driveway with a new transom and I am torn between wanting to slap her together half-assed and go fishing or spend a summer doing a complete restore. Already paid for a slip.Yesterday I saw the post about a V in Toms River and I thought "man I could buy that, slap my motor on it and go fishing". I am sick...in the head. I need help. http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...pictureid=1128 |

Soon you'll be driving down the road and almost get in a single vehicle accident checking out an old 70's hull tucked back behind a fence. |
Just purchased 1974 V-20
Hello I'm new to site and V-20 Hull. I just purchased what I believe to be a 1974 (74 in HID ?). IB/OB running a GM inline 6 cly engine. Helped original owner rebuild power unit and outdrive 2/3 years ago. Traded some labor for couple fishing trips here in Va. Like hull for it's ride ETC. Told owner maybe interested when he wants to sell her.He called me last month he found a great deal on a 22' Chris Craft. I now own the Wellcraft mechically she is good totally rebuild.I upgraded ign system to elect from out points. Is there anything I should be aware off ?...Thanks will be adding top then going fishing..Trans Yank

For all of you that are looking for a V20 I have one that I would be willing to part with... Half way through the restoration and have come to a halt for various reasons..
Do have pics if anyone is interested... |

Welcome to the site. Plenty of guys here with huge amounts of knowledge on the engines and hulls of these water warriors. You asked if there was anything to be concerned about. Off the top of my head I'd say that the most prevalent issues with these boats are soft transoms, rotted stringers and corroded fuel tanks. If the boat has been maintained properly, most if not all of those issues are non issues. I won't go into detail here about how you can tell if you have a problem, there are many others here that can and will do that, plus tell you how to fix them if you do have them. Since you have an I/O, about the most important thing I'd be concerned with is the integrity of the bellows where the outdrive goes through the transom and mates with the engine. It's made of rubber, and like all things made of rubber it can and will eventually fail, allowing water to enter into your boat. (Not a good thing if you're several miles from shore). It's always a good thing to inspect it and replace it every few years. The cost is well worth the peace of mind. |
I too love my boat. I can't think of another boat that can run around a choppy bay through really skinny water to get to the perfect sand bar to hang out on and have a few beers and burgers. Then the next day go out in the ocean to go fishing and handle it like a champ. And mine being a buddy with an enclosure the rain doesn't spoil the party. Just love it!!

My opinion ........the big brother to the V20/21 is the SeaCraft 23 Sceptre/ Tsunami.
Similar with classic lines, big open cockpit and roomy cuddy area. That's about the only boat I might trade my V21 for......or not. :) |
Big brother would be a 23 Seabird or 23 Dusky.
|
Got mine from a guy, who happily for me, was a complete non-mechanic. He thought the engine was getting unreliable and I got the boat. He'd fished it in the ocean off California for years and loved it. He replaced it with a 23' Striper W/A and told me later that the V was a much better boat in the ocean.
I love my boat! |
