Lake Erie Walleye 2015

Got out for the first time this year on Friday, unfortunately not in the V as she is still waiting her turn at the motor doctor. We fished in a friends Starcraft, launched out of Catawba state park around 8am. We headed towards the cans at a blistering 10mph, the fog was so thick you couldnt see 100 yds, at one point we could hear people on another boat very clearly talking to each other but could not see them... scary stuff

anyway on to the fishing, It was fantastic. We had our 4 man limit of eyes in less than two hours. We continued to catch and release fish for a few more hours before heading in. We handled somewhere around 40 walleye (i lost count after 30)

lures didnt seem to matter, anything we put ot there caught fish. We caught on dhj12s anywhere from 40-100 back. Reef Runner 800s from 40-80 back. Reef runner skinny sticks from 60-80 back and also Smithwick Perfect 10s 20/20 and 30/30 with 1 ounce snap weights.

great day on the lake, i hope the rest of the year is like this.

 I'd be happy with one walleye that size. Beautiful.

Excellent table fare! Congrats on the catch!

we didnt catch any monster fish, a lot of 28-30in 8 pounders though.

All the fish we caught were spawned out, i didnt get the chance to fish this year while they still had eggs. A few weeks ago these fish looked like footballs. Im surprised the state record wasnt broken this spring or through the ice in the winter.

Put the v in on Friday and had three short trips in front of Beaver park in Lorain.

fished for about an hour Friday and caught 2

fished for about two hours Saturday and caught 3

fished for about two hours Sunday and caught 4

All fish were on cranks, yesterday a mardi gras reef runner caught all 4. 70 and 80 feet back.

The big numbers of fish havent made there way this far East yet but they should be here soon, then the real fun will begin

Fishing has still been slow for us, weve been catching probably 5 fish on average when weve been out. We havent really tried too hard though, weve been being lazy and fishing old good spots and havent ran around looking for active fish like we should be. Thats gonna change next time i get out on the water.

took some friends out that have never trolled for walleye before, they both caught their first fish Ohio walleye ( 28in or larger qualifies) and they both had a great time and seem to be hooked.

heres a few pics

In NJ, an 8 pound walleye is a monster!

Lake Erie 'eyes

Mac Attack

Out of town for that one, fished Leamington on Memorial Day weekend. we took 24 'eyes.....all between 7 to 10 lbs. Harnesses in 33 FOW, couldn't find smaller fish. Signed up for the Leamington Derby in July, will post pics later....

been a slow year for me out of Lorain, weve been slowly picking fish all year. Havent gotten them dialed in at all.

most trips have consisted of 5-10 fish... a few better days a few worse.

how are you guys doing?

Lake Erie 'Eyes

How is everyone doing on the south shore...........been out of Erieau the last couple of days. The fishing is slow at best, picked up five on Tuesday and four yesterday. The charter fleet didn't do any better. Put in 20 plus hours for nine 'eyes. Best bait was a blue/chrome tail dancer.....never touched a steelhead. Starting too scare me the results we are having here. Too much commercial pressure.....

Mac_Attack 07-24-2015 01:46 PM

Going out Sunday from Leamington will post results Tues when I get back.

weve been doing better lately on the sandbar.... a lot of small fish. seems like the 03 class of fish is finally getting thinner.

ive mainly been running 800 series reefs 80-120 back with 2oz weights ahead of them. speed 2.0-2.4

jamesbalog 08-02-2015 11:59 PM

Hammered the fish on Saturday. did well in these areas. 33/18 35/17 32/16 (east end of the sand bar) We boated about 35 fish throughout the day, we had 20 fish by 11 am and were throwing fish back back leaving a few slots of our limit for upgrades. We felt confident with our fish around 115 and kept the last double to finish our 24 and headed back to the dock. We were in a tournament and ended up winning it with our best 5 going 36.6 pounds.

anything deep caught fish. reef runners 100-120 back with 2 and 3 ounce weights. 3 ounce inlines with spinners from 80-130 back. dipsy 1 setting 70-90 back and dipsy 3 setting 90-110 back color didnt seem to matter. speed was 1.8 on the low side 2.4 on the quick end

That's an impressive string of marble eyes and a great day on the water what's your limit out there. Most lakes in southern Alberta are catch and release good to catch a decent sized walleye. lesser slave lake were I spend my summer we're only aloud 1 fish per person per day 43cm and up for size restriction. Used to be able to keep five per person years ago to many fisherman to few lakes out here. We get lots of small walleyes 3-4 lbs very few above that now days.
