V20 Restoration Fla
Don't know if this is the right place to post this if not let me know where to put it.... Am new to the forum and will be asking a lot of questions as I go.. Also will be a long drawn out affair (as with any Lady) so be patient..
Am starting to pull floor up today and hope that I don't find anything surprising under there.. Any comments or help will be appreciated... Will post pics as progress goes along Thanks |
Best of luck with her facelift. Just remember that a) You'll find things that you don't want to find, b) They are fixable, c) Don't try to do it all at once. (You can eat an entire elephant if you take little bites over a long period of time) and d) There's a ton of people here that have faced exactly what you are facing and both they and their boats survived.
You'll get through it, we can help. |
Agreed, I think sometimes we take for granted this unbelievable resource we have. Tell me one other model boat owner that can search a forum and see the guts of the exact same boat they have and then see how a multitude of people have tackled the fix.....unbelievable really.

we love pics and spending other peoples time & money

Thnaks all for the support... Will be needing it Im sure... I am in the Tampa area...
Will post some pics soon... |

Not a day goes by I dont miss livin in Tampa. I miss throwin down in Hyde Park and all the snook fishin I used to do:beer: |
Come on back down and show me some of your snook holes. Oh, sorry there, welcome aboard. We love pictures. Cuddy and centers, even duallys. When I took the liner off I found numerous hooks, leads, a chip brush full of resin that was stuck to a stringer, lots of rot, and a good bit of bare wood. Don't mean to scare the newbie but these boats were punched out on an assembly line. Having said that, I agree, read up on the topic, and dive right in. Pictures, yes yes. I will consult as well if you need opinions... LOL!!

Hi All... Well here is the beginning of the end........ So to speak...
As I posted in the repair section somebody replaced the gas tank with one that didn't quite fit and cut out the storage unit to make it... Some times I wonder... I am going to lay a new floor over the tank and hope it never leaks.. I will keep the storage unit just have to remodel it and go from there. Would there be any advantage to spraying the risers and all with epoxy paint before laying the floor? Here are some pics of some of the work... |
Sorry ... Can't seem to get pics to download.. Will try again tomorrow

I'm only seeing one pic, but my email shows that there's more.
|
Took awhile to get them there but seem to be sent ok. They show up here in my post.. What pic did you get?
|
Just one of the floor. I'm viewing the site from my iPhone, not sure If that has anything to do with it.
|
Six went through as regular photos 1 went as a thumbnail.. I think that's the one you are looking at... Some photos won't open on my friends iphone so maybe you will be able to open them later on your computer... Let me know...
|
If figure you figure out Photobucket that will be the best pics. By the way have fun on your project. As already been said....this site is loaded with info and very very knowledgeable guys.
|
can't wait to see pix.
as for posting photos...my 2 cents... I don't use photobucket(not anything against it) The main problem is file size. New cameras have 5 megapixel or more...:pic: To get them smaller there are multiple ways but I email them to myself, which gives the option to make smaller. I Save them in a folder marked "email photos" Then I can choose them on this site using the "attachments paper clip" Works every time. Puts the pix in as thumbnails that the reader can expand. Another way is to go to your UserCP here and save them(the small files) in an album. Then you can use the "Insert Photo" function and it puts the photos directly in the post without thumbnail. |
Here are some pics after floor removal.. It seems as though every thing is good except around the sides of the gas tank.. What a butcher job putting in a gas tank

I dont seem to be able to see the pictures? And by the way when i ripped my sole up on my boat.....i was in shock as to how crappy the glass and wood construction was on my 74'. It was terrible. Just looking at quality from back then im almost positive my boat is 500 times stronger than factory!
|
I am still trying to figure out the picture thing.. I agree when I saw the factory work I thought it was a Monday morning project... Somebody else decided to replace the gas tank with a bigger on and had know idea how to waterproof any thing

Does anybody know what this is????
It is located just in front of the bilge |
not sure of size, but a hinge for a bilge pump float switch maybe?
when it doubt, rip it out |

That would make sense.. But going to leave it there... Don't want to pull gas tank out but have a lot of water under it and wondering how the original was set in... any thoughts????
|
the original tank cavity was between the stringers with two bulkheads fore & aft to enclose the tank. there was a 1" hole in the bottom of the bulkheads and a piece of 1" pvc was glassed in the bottom and the holes were sealed to keep the cavity "spill proof". the theory was if the fuel cell ruptured, the fuel was still contained in the cavity and not get to the bilge. pretty sure it never worked like that though. then 4 wedges were put in the cavity to hold the tank off the bottom and off the pvc pipe. after that, they were foamed in to stabilize.
http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps2f3235f0.jpg when i installed my new tank, i eliminated the thru pipe and enlarged the drains http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0dd2d63d.jpg |

Thank you phat, I am attaching 2 photos.. One shows the way somebody cut through the riser to install a larger tank.... The other one shows the front of the tank from the front... The pvc pipe goes all the way through to the bilge area.. The problem being is that the left about a one foot void with nowhere for the water to go... Am planning on extending the pipe and building a new riser in front and foaming the void and hopefully make water proof

we live on the east side of nebraska on idlewild.... My biggest prob right now is how to pull the motor off so I can work on the transom.. Any thoughts??
|
http://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-c...9338-8825.html
if i'm not mistaken, that motor has a lifting eye on it |
Either a chain hoist, come-along or (my own personal choice) a cherry picker will work fine.
I use a cherry picker because it allows me to move the engine around after I've removed it from the transom. It's simply a matter of logistics. Mobility equals ease of use. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-Ton-C...l_s1021_c0615b |
Roycie, that tank installation must have cut out a bulkhead? looks crazy...tank must be too long. ...and hoses going the wrong way?
