...Was some of them Crabs softshell?
Good goin Stink!
:clap::clap:

Stinky_Hooker 08-30-2011 02:34 PM

no just regular blues, they boiled up good though. I stopped fooling with them after the flounder picked up. We lost/missed at least 10 more flatties.

Blue_Runner 08-31-2011 08:07 AM

PETA is looking for you Stink! That is an excellent haul. Nothing but meat on the flatties. Nice groceries!

charlie_the_tuna 08-31-2011 12:42 PM

hey stinker, what's your limit down there?
and who's the fat guy holding the spear?

Stinky_Hooker 08-31-2011 01:40 PM

There was no limit till 2 years ago. Now its 10 per with a minimum 12".

As many as we have there still shouldnt be a limit but some jackazzes posted a bunch of pictures of a jubillee a couple years ago where they literally kept a few hundred.

Thats yours truely...Im down 15 pounds and counting though so gimme some credit! LOL

And thats not a spear, its a homemade all-thread gig. :bat:

I call this one "too many beers and not enough boat"

tsubaki 08-31-2011 02:39 PM

Better watch it, fore too long you'll be charged for GUI.

Dang, and I complain at our limits being 15 at 12".
We just don't have enough sandy locations around here to really justify going till about November when the boat traffic diminishes to not stir up so much silt.

At least you didn't totally ruin my day (well you really did) being those crabs weren't softshell. Think the only person that likes them more than me is my wife.

Stinky_Hooker 08-31-2011 03:19 PM

90% of my gigging is done on muddy bottom. Just gotta catch the wind right. It has to be a pretty calm day prior to a successfull night. Takes many hours for the silt to lay like you said. For the small coastline this area has though there are really a ton of places to gig. Regardless of conditions and wind direction I can generally find some clear water somewhere.

Edit: these last few trips are in MS and it is 15 there.

ssiredfish 09-01-2011 02:31 PM

Did yall have any right-facing flatties????? I always like to look through a pile like that for that particular combo

From what I understand, catching a left and right facing flounderin the same trip is more rare than hitting a cycle in baseball.

(I know they all look right-facing in the pic but they are upside-down, look at the lips)

Stinky_Hooker 09-01-2011 02:53 PM

Ive never seen one that faced the other way. From what I understand they all "turn" the same way when maturing. Ive never seen one with brown on the bottom and white on the top either. :fam:

tsubaki 09-01-2011 05:01 PM

I doubt I can find the picture.
One night I picked up one that ended up weighing 8lb12oz.
Later after looking at the picture I realized it had the mouth on the wrong side.
Got 3/4" fillets off the white side.

Are you going this weekend ??? Might be kinda windy !!!!

Please do!!!!!

Stinky: Its rare but it does occur. That being said is why it is so rare to have both in the same trip. Probably why it made ol' boy's magazine

Sorry it's blurry, it's all I got.

ssiredfish 09-02-2011 01:23 PM

You beat my biggest by an inch!!!!! Awesome fish!!!!

My only regret was not wiping it down and writting "Welcome" on it

tsubaki 09-02-2011 01:29 PM

From what I remember he was just under 28" when I layed him out flat on the tailgate to clean him.
In that picture he was still curled up from being stuffed in the cooler all night.
