I see you are from New bern. Go by Tyndall Marine and ask Keith what it is.

Well, no. The front deck on my cuddy is flat, yours is peaked. I have been known to be wrong before, but I'm pretty darn sure that ain't a V. The Scorpion is almost a carbon copy, the hull anyway, but the caps are slightly different. Theres are peaked on the front deck.

Look on the transom, starboard side, hull ID should start with WEL. If not, it aint no Wellcraft.

OK, you got me all confuzzled. I see in your other post where you whacked that silly step off the cap. Now I'm certain mine is different on the bow deck. But it ain't in the yard for me to look at. So, I stand corrected, sorry bro.
Either way, nice buy for $400. Git 'r done. I won't be in New Bern for long, I hope. I'm moving just as soon as I get my house sold.

yeah i went on to that V before it was on ebay with Tyndall, it use to be in a yacht yard in Greenville NC and i had the guy down to $350 but decided to let it go. i was going to buy it for Stink so he could have the glass off it for his old V20.

Hey Skools Tyndall still has that Parker. He wants $1000.00 for it. Boy it is rough. It was in the water during a NC hurricane and a piling went thru the hull.

You been busy. Looking good. That seat box is nice looking. Wood over glass ?
Your turning into a real pic. Ho. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Harbour880

Yep fiberglass over wood. Lid is fiberglassed plywood trim with mahoganey. Mounting a 48 qt cooler (w/ the lid removed) inside flush with the top so all you see when you open it will be the inside of the cooler.
Here the box before glassing.

Thats some fine wood work. Those box seats are hard to come by. How will you mont it to the floor ?
msbhammer
07-30-2007, 02:33 AM
H-88, you need to get a gallary for your V. ;)
Harbour880
07-30-2007, 02:33 AM
Mount two cleats (ie resin coated 2x4s) to the floor with screws and 5200. The box will fit over them and screw into them from the sides.

How long you have it for...just a few months I figure.
Harbour880
07-30-2007, 02:10 PM
I've only had it for 10 days.
I started the seat boxes before I got the boat home.
Had a pro do the transom before it came home.

No bracket lined up. Dreaming of one w/ swim platform.
Boxes will have lids w/ built-in coolers.

I got all goofed up cuz he whacked the step off behind the windsheild and I didn't know the front decks were different on the older V's. I shoulda recognized that the gunnel caps didn't have the goofy raised rib on it that the Scorpions have. Like I said, my bad, sorry to get somebody's hackles up.
Now on to new bidness, that box is awesome! Pretty work.

Nothing exciting to report on now. Still removing 30 years worth of bottom paint. I've got one side stripped down to the gel coat.

Whatcha stripping with and how's the technique working out for ya? I'm going to do the same.

I finally finished stripping the bottom paint. First I scraped the bottom w/ a five-in-one-tool. I was surprised how much came off. Of course in some places nothing came off. Next I used a chemical stripper,Talstrip, available at Advance Auto. I think Skool mentioned this in an earlier post. It works well. Because of several layers of paint two applications were sometimes needed. This stuff is pretty strong and can soften the gel coat if you are not careful. Water stops the stripping action. After the stripper a light blue haze was left on the hull which I removed with a random orbital sander.
If you get any stripper on your skin you will know it right away, it burns. Rinsing off w/ water will stop the burning.
