Hi Fish,

Take it back, your boat's too pretty to be puttin' that stuff on her ;)

Seriously though. Are you planning on keeping her in the water for a length of time? If not, keep that paint off her. There was a previous thread on this topic not very long ago and I think most of us would give you the same advice.

Of course, you may already know all of this and you may simply be asking about the paint itself. If that's the case, then I have no comment b/c I've never used it...

hey grace, believe me its going to kill me to slap paint on that hull but i dont have a choice. the boat will be in a slip for the season. if i could trailer it i would but thats just not feasable right now. by the way its trinidad sr.

Only for the season?...for what you're probably payin' for the paint and all the grief puttin' it on, you could have the bottom proffessionaly cleaned when you haul her out at season's end... ;) ;D...paint's for bottoms gonna be slipped ALL the time... 8)...

if you have no chose tha n go with a ablative paint it will come off by its self
but putting paint on a clean hull like yours is going to kill me
i wouldnt do it
how about a rack for the season they put it in and they take it out when you come back
see i have a 78 with paint on her but cant decide what to do i trailer mine and you dont see it in the water
the bottom makes the boat look bad but the topside is nice so think about it reel hard

I am going to be paying my son to strip mine off!! Never would I paint the bottom with a permint paint!!use something that will come off or don't do it at all!!

Why don't they make a white bottom paint?? Does anyone know??

Mj, I've wondered that, too ???...I guess the crap in the paint just won't go white no matter what they mix it with... ::)...

I understand bottom paint for big boats, but a 20'er is just too easily pulled out and cleaned to be painted...a painted bottom's gotta be maintained, too... ;)...

maco, they do make a white bottom paint... i forget who makes it but i thought about white. believe me when i say nothing will hurt me more than slapping paint on this virgin beauty but we are slipped at the very end of a stagnant canal and the fouling is incredible. i have weighed all the feasable options carefully and have come up with only one solution... paint her up and hope one day i can strip her down when im ready to trailer. and the stuff costs $190 a gallon so it must be good.

Interlux VC PERFORMANCE EPOXY.
For trailered or rack stored boats. Hard slick, semi gloss finish. #272353.
I'm debating now if I should use this paint instead of the white paint I purchased called top seacret off the net.

Fishmaster, whatever you do, I wouldnt use the interlux no sand primer to paint onto the hull prior to the antifould paint application, No sand primer from Interlux is used on virgin hulls when the are painted with antifould paint. A guy here in Lewes has been using the No Sand Primer and then painting the antifoul paint on. The antifoul paint has been peeling off because the No Sand Primer is not bonding to the hulls.
The Guy is to meet with someone from Interlux because he is getting stuck repainting the hulls over again at his own expense.

Fish, so where are the pics. of your boat bottom painted.
I waisted alot of time and money all this week painting my boat with a paint caqlled TOP SECRET. It $UCK$ !!!
Nice glossy finish, looked like a gellcoat finish, but I could peel it off with my nail. It wasnt bonding well to the Interlux barrier coat. So that was $150.00 waisted.
I then went with Interlux PC Performance bottom paint for trailered boats. That was $167.00 a gallon. The paint is suposed to be applied by sprayer, but Interlux said that it can be applied by roller *** well. WRONG. Once I made the equal mix of paint and hardner, it was like water, wouldnt even stay on the brush let alone the boat hull. So I called Interlux and raised hell. They wernt even sure of the correct ratio 1 to 1 or 3 to 1 mix.
SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A GALLON OF STRIPPER !! and starting all over now. the hull has been stripped and I finshed resanding her down today. Now its finding a good bottom paint that will look nice and stick.
Fish, what barrier type primer did you use and what type of bottom paint you use. I'm thinking about using Pettit bottom paint that now has hard bright vivid colors at a cost of $167.00 a gallon. Just need to know if Pettit paint will bound to the Interlux barrier coat primer before loosing more money into a simple hull painting.

Hammer...can't believe Interlux just left ya swingin' in the breeze...they're not ''steppin' up''? ??? Can't you go back at 'em and at least find out what went wrong.... :-/...

I'd really be worried about the outdrive. If you're going in saltwater, your biggest problem may be barnicles on the running gear. Don't use your typical bottom paint on the OD. In Florida if you can't pull your boat every 2-3 wks, you're in trouble. I used to have a diver clean my running gear every 3-4 wks. I had twin Alpha ones on a 27' Amberjack. I'd look into dry storage, however they're only as good as their worst forklift driver. Good luck. Just my $.02

hammer you're not suppose to thin the paint 50/50 that's your first problem :-/ and i thought you had said you weren't bottom painting the boat ???

msbhammer

School, didnt thin the paint to 50/50, The TOP COAT paint said to thin it out about 10 percent wich I did, and the paint bounded well to the stern, but anywhere else it wasnt bonding to well.
Now as to the second paint: Interluce PC performance paint. They sent me one gallon of paint and WOW...1-Gallon of curing agent. A mix ratio of 1 to 1. The paint was thick as normal, but once I mixed the full gallon of curing agent it was nothing more then soapy water.
When I called Interlux and demanded a sales rep to come out, they actually had teh Delaware sales rep call me, and he wasnt even sure what the mixing ratio was. he thought it was a 3 to 1 mixing ratio like everything else that they sell. Interlux was also boxing all of there grey interlux in white labels. I bought three gallons of Barrier coat at two differnt stores trying to find white ! ;D .
Interlux sent me a new gallon of paint, but I refuse to use it. I have waisted so much time with just trying to make the bottom nice, I'm totally stuck on what to do. The boat should have been out of the boat yard by now.
I thought about using primer overtop of the interlux primer and then seeing if the TOP COAT works. But if it doesnt, thats another $200.00 fushed down the toilet.
I'm to the point now, I just might put on a gallon of Pettit Vivid bottom paint at $167.00 a gallon, but I dont know if the interlux barrier coat will work with Pettit paint. Doing a simple job of painting the bottom is costing me big bucks and TIME . I'm at a loss. Black bottom paint is starting to look better everytime I think about it. That Top Coat would have been nice. Paint it on once and never paint again.
