Get your minds out of the gutter! We took out the boat last night after work, this was the first fishing trip with the new motor (sorry no underway pics, the camera battery was dead). It performed great. Logged 35 miles on my GPS, filled up this morning with 16 gals. Most all of this milage was cruising at around 3800 rpms. It was pretty sloppy heading out.

Anyway, Ive got to work on these controls, something is not right. It is very stiff in fwd after the first detent. I don't think it's the cables though. It feels like somethings tight in the control box.

Here are a few more pics:

Glad to hear the motor is working out. It looks to be in real nice shape. Your numbers from your other post are pretty much exactly what I get with my 150 Johnson.

could you shift it by hand without the control cable hooked up? i have one Evinrude that is super stiff on the shift level on the lower unit but never had a problem with it. It's just a stiff shift for some reason. Looks great on the V ;)

Skools,

I would definitly say it's the throttle. It shifts into gear very smooth (up to detent on control box) in both directions. I still don't like the fact that I'm at the end of my adjustment for reverse, but that's another isuue I believe.

With the cables disconnected the other day, I can cylce through the motions at the control box and it feels good. As you mentioned, the throttle on the motor is a little stiff as it has alot of cam action a spring to overcome. We put a little lube around the timmer base area the other day, this helped a little. While we were out fishing though it seemed to be getting stiffer.

hey post a pic of your throttle linkage on the side of the motor, that will give me an idea if it looks like one of mine to figure out something.

Nice 007! Looking "reel" good. I used a stiff shifter for 5 years. The only drawback is when you get in someone elses boat, and for whatever the reason they ask you to drive for a minute. I would alway go to give it some throttle and push it way too hard, which nearly throws everybody out of the boat!! Then I'm having to explain, "sorry...mine shifts alot harder than yours" :D

Nice A$$, ya got there Shicks!! ;D ;D ...Glad to hear she's runnin' so good 8) ...

Could it be the previous owner put too strong a spring on your throttle linkage?...PO's do some odd things sometimes ??? ;) ...w/ the spring off, how does it operate?

Curious...what's the bracket in front of the motor?...

Shore is a good lookin' rig ya got there ;D ;D ...

RAP,

That bracket is a quick fix for now. It's to keep my cable bundle from going under my steering arm. When it goes under the arm, I can't turn the motor too sharp or the cables/hoses become tight. I made that bracket at work my memory, it's intirely too tall/big. I'm hoping the vacuum cleaner hose solves the whole issue.

I took my two boys out this morning for a little riding and fishing. Got some new top end numbers 43.7 mph @5500 rpm's. :o

I adjusted my throttle cable this morning before we left. The motor starts to accelerate closer to the top after the detent where it goes into gear. The way it was, there was alot of "lost motion" in the control lever. This also smoothed out the throttle alot. I would say that it is satisfactory now. Thanks for the help with this stuff guys. ;D

I will be heading down to the outer banks, N.C. this week. Wer'e leaving in the morning and should be back next Sunday. Before you ask, I'm leaving the boat at home. ::)

Every year we talk about bringing the boat down, every year we say, "maybe next year". I'm sure it will happen.

I tell ya RAP, the older I get, the further I back away from the edge ;D ;).
