No, the goal was not to overturn the election. The goal was to recount certain questionable state's returns to verify that there was no cheating.

The demonstration was fueled by millions of people wanting a recount, wanting a fair and legal election. That's not a big lie. That's patriotism.
Perhaps you should read the 1st Amendment to the constitution.... the one where it says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

And before you say anything about it not being peaceful, there were 20,000+ people there and it was mostly peaceful with a very small percentage getting out of hand.
