IF Murphy gets in you can kiss goodbye ANY chance of being able to carry a weapon, concealed or open, for as long as he's in power. Murphy is just another of a LONG line of Democrats that promise everything and do nothing but raise your taxes. Remember when NJ had no sales tax? Thank a Democrat for giving it to us. In 1930 it was .02 cents... and supposed to never go higher. It expired 3 years later ... The sales tax was revived in 1966, at 3 percent by Gov Hughes, a Democrat. It was increased to 5 percent in 1970 and 6 percent in 1983. After running on a promise to not increase taxes Democratic Gov. Jim Florio decided to raise the sales tax to 7 percent and also asked for a $2.8 billion tax increase. It was the largest tax increase of any state in U.S. history. And speaking of taxes, lets not forge that it was Democrat Gov Brendan Byrne that imposed the state income tax on us in 1976. All the labor unions that are bleeding the state dry are all firmly in the Dem's pockets. So your answer is simple. If you want higher taxes and no chance of regaining your Constitutionally guaranteed right to carry a gun vote for Murphy.

(I'm willing to bet that one of the first things he'll do is start charging for the saltwater fishing license that is currently free in NJ)

These are the bastards that voted for the gas tax that put us number 2 in the US as the highest gas tax. And their reasoning was that since we had not had an increase in the gas tax in 10 years they felt like they somehow deserved it, like a raise. They took advantage of the lower gas prices hoping that no one would notice that almost every penny of the lower prices was taken from us by them.. and by "them" I mean the democrat party controlled state lawmakers. If you elect Murphy you can expect more of the same. (I was down in Va 2 weeks ago and filled up my tank @ $2.09 a gal. That's about what we would be paying right now in NJ if they had not passed the .23 cents a gal higher tax.)

There is no answer to the question. The only difference between NJ dems and NJ repubes is the dems raise taxes and the repubes borrow from the future. Every time a republican governor told you he(or she) cut your taxes they just cut income taxes for 6 figure people and borrowed against the highway fund or the pension fund. Then the repubes added more and more "sin"taxes behind the scenes (Beer, liquor, cigs, casino gaming and lottery (dream tax). The kicker is when they borrow money for 30 years to give property tax rebates to old people.

I can't vote for another Goldman Sachs duchebag so I might have to write myself in....

Skunk, while I completely agree with you that there is no real answer to the question I feel compelled to point out that your casting the Republicans as the major cause of NJ's woes is hardly accurate. In fact, just like in the Federal system, the true power of the purse rests with the NJ Legislature and the NJ Senate. If you go back 50 years to 1967 and count forward you'll find that for 30 of those years the Democrats were completely in control of both branches and the Republicans were only in control for 12 years. That's roughly a 3-1 advantage for the Democrats. (I'm not counting the years when one party was in control of one branch and the other party was in control of the other or when both parties were split evenly)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_party_strength_in_New_Jersey

So your casting the Republicans as the bad guys is numerically and statistically false. (It's the old song and dance that the Dems constantly use... The republicans only cut taxes for the rich, the Republicans added more sin taxes, etc etc etc.) The FACT is that the gravy pension funds that the various unions have (who are 100% in the pockets of the Democrats) are one of the main reasons for the monetary problems the state is facing. So IF you want to blame Republicans for adding more hidden taxes then at the same time you also have to blame the Democrats for giving the luxurious pensions to the unions that caused the problems in the first place.

And if you want an example of how the Unions are gouging the taxpayers of NJ you only have to look at the how the Democrats orchestrated the awarding of contracts for road and highway construction. We pay almost twice what it would normally cost because the Dems made it law that the state had to pay the "prevailing" wage, and then they wrote laws that the courts had to interpret that prevailing wage as what a union worker would get. A non-union contractor cannot even submit a bid if he doesn't hire Union workers, even thought hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars spent could be HALVED just by using non-union workers.

My point is that the Democrats are hardly the Lilly white innocents that you are making them out to be. In fact, they are the root cause of most of the money problems we face in NJ. You cannot continue to give freebies to everyone in exchange for their votes to keep you in power. Someone (the working taxpayer) has to pay, somehow, for that largess.

I didn't say dems were not a problem. I didn't say anything good about them. I was making the point that the repubes are not what they claim to be either. They are the same sh!t in a different bag.

When you move down and eventually start telling some 6th generation local how you used to do it up north, just know that even if he doesn't say it, he really doesn't give a ****.

Seriously though, it sucks down here, ask Destroyer.

And speaking of Murphy or Kim... Seeing the latest on Murphy.. he just said that if elected he'd want to make New Jersey into a "Sanctuary State" for illegal immigrants... much like the California idiots did. So.... he's promised to raise our taxes over i.5 Billion dollars and make New Jersey into a Sanctuary State? Yep... sounds like the kind of person this once great state will elect... <sigh>

Well, Murphy won. Congrats to all that voted for him. You deserve and I truly hope you get exactly what he promised you.

NJ is probably going to become a sanctuary state, our taxes will go through the roof, our health care will be administered by the state much like Massachusetts's is, the minimum wage will go to $15, our gun control laws will become even harsher (even though we already are one of the top 5 states with the strictest gun control laws) and what else?.... oh yes, Marijuana will become legal.

I cannot wait for my wife to become eligible for her pension so we can move outta this hellhole.

Yet another item. 6 weeks ago Gov Murphy quietly signed a law granting free college tuition to illegal immigrants. They have to grad high school first, or get an equivalency degree, but that'the only requirement. And NO, American citizens, NJ taxpayers, are not eligible for the grant. All we are eligible for it paying for it for people that are breaking the law by being in this country illegally. Welcome to Socialism 101. :cen:

My cousin’s aunt was just run over by one in Harrison. Unlicensed, but he stayed on the scene, so they let him go. Stupid sanctuary policy means you can’t hold him.

So, he's breaking the law by being here illegally, and he's breaking the law by not having a driver's license...? Well, of course they had to let him go. Wouldn't want to make a potential Democrat vote angry now, would we?

As a further update... It's a well know fact that the Teachers Union hates standardized testing (proficiency exams) for students. (Because it shows what the students have really learned and how well the teachers are or are not teaching). Since they were one of Murphy's biggest campaign contributors we just learned what those contributions cost. Gov Murphy last week signed into law a law axing 4 state exams for high school students, abolishing 4 of the most difficult tests. Algebra II, Geometry, as well as English in both the ninth and eleventh grades. Only the Algebra I and 10th grade English tests remain - for now.

Oh, and to cut the time for the last two tests by 25%, reduce the weight of the exams in teachers evaluations.... And lower high school graduation requirements. So where before a passing score was 60%, now it's going to be 50%.

So let me put this into perspective. Instead of raising the level of the students, Gov Murphy is actually lowering it and by doing so rewarding the inferior teachers that should be fired. Gotta love how the Dems think. Dumb students = more on welfare = more votes. And we, the taxpayers, get to pay some of the highest taxes in the NATION for this bull$hit!!

My wife is a teacher, and I can tell you many of those test's NEED to go. All teacher's have time to do is teach the test anymore. Everything is centered around those test's. How much funding the school get's, bonus's, school supplies, how long the achool year can be, when they go back, and so much more. In Florida at least(I know several other states also), Pearson is the one writing all these test's, and guess who annonomously sits on there board? None other than Jeb Bush. Guess who signed in and started all these test's in Florida when they were Governor? You guessed it, Jeb Bush, and it has become the national pattern for no child left behind.

So getting rid of some of these test's is not neccesarily a bad thing. And I know you're going to say, but the test's measure how effective the teacher's are. In reality they don't, all they measure is how well the kid has listened to the same test material drilled into there head over and over again while normal teaching curriculum is ignored. Teacher's now just teach the test all year long while much of the curriculum is ignored because they know it's not on the test. Teacher's have had it drilled into there heads by administration, TEACH THE TEST AND ONLY THE TEST!, that way they can get there school grade up, and get more funding.

And if these test's are so great, answer me why charter schools are exempt from doing them?

Agree with ya ferm, my wife was a teacher for 15 years, school administrator for 10 years and county level administrator for 10 years, retiring in Dec. she s been on the classroom side and the management side. My daughter is a middle school civics teacher (6 years), so i hear all sides of it.

Jeb Bush and charter schools have pretty much gutted public education in florida. They feed at the public trough, but don t have to play by the public rules. Schools are being divided into the haves and the have nots.
