Most likely where they had to use a torch to get the lower unit bolts out to try and drop the lower unit. also if it hasnt been done, it will need a new shift shaft. yamaha in there infinite wisdom thought a plain steel shaft was fine for the shift shaft until sometime in the mid 90's.

Yep I had to do my shift shaft when I had one. You got to remove the power head to do it, and that sucks!!

Theres now a 2 piece one that doesn't require removing the powerhead. It has saved ALOT of engines from the scrap pile, and ALOT of un neccesary work.
