I'd figure I'd go ahead and make a topic on it, ask for all input. Some time between now and the end of March(after Christmass would be better for me, I might have my V up and running them). I'm still working on getting price for short term slips. Reel said he's providing BbQ, i can get enough oysters to fill us all up. Take a look at the Charleston tourist sites to figuer out what ya'll are intersted in. The marina I hve in mind is down town and has provisons for an oyster roast/cook out. Lots of accomidations, If you need ad rive by on aplace to see what it looks like, let em know. Open to all sugestions.

I use Sea Breeze Marina, its not normally used for in the water slips as its a dry stack, but I know the manager and he will let us use the marina as a central point and use of its facilities. The marina doesn't lease out for wet slips. The marina is located at the old Jail House on the City Creek part of the Cooper River. It was right at the base of the old grace Bridge before they tore it down. It faces Drum Island with a view of the Yroktown from accross the harbour. Its right beside the Columbus Street terminal. Trailer parking may be an issue, but I'm working on it. You can actually see a glimps of the building before they renovated it during the movie Die Hard 2 in the scene where they pulled the Dodge truck off the bridge. City Marina is a nice place($$$), its mroe accomodating for in teh water slips, it also has a shuttle to the local sites, my old office was there right beside the Variaty Store Resturant. There is also Charleston Harbor Marina, right in front of the Hiton(figure Willy will be staying there), accross the harbor in Mt Pleasant. Ashely Marina is right beside City, and then The Bristol is right beside the Ashely. Ripley Light is accriss the water from Ashely. There are planty of otehr places to put in or more your boat, but having use of teh facilities for a gatehring may be an issue. Sea Brreze will be accomidating as long as we feed the manager

If there are any links to there websites that would be great.

just about anyplace down town will be nice. I'll look around and see whats what. The hilton in Mt, Pleasant would be sweet. It has its own Marina in front of it http://www.charlestonharborresort.com/. This site may help you http://www.charleston.com/ find a better place to stay. If any one has a question about a plpace, let me know where and I'll ride by and take a look,

heres part of the post on the other thread
"As far a lodging goes, just about anything in MT. Pleasant is nice(and expensive). Downtown Charleston is great(even more expensive) James Island is decent, North Charleston is hit or miss depending where you're looking. If anyone is going to be towing with a camper or motor home, there are several nice campgrounds around here. Folly Beach is pretty cool, has a ramp nearby, you may be able to find a cottage for rent at an offseason rate. Isle of Palms is $$$$, only Willy could afford to stay there. Goose Creek(where I live) and Summerville both have nice places to stay, but they are probably a little further away than most would want(I live 15 miles from Charleston Harbor). Monks Corner is too far away unless you want to do the tailrace/Cooper River. Anyone find a hotel and want a drive by to see if its decent, let me know "

If any of ya'll are coming from far away and have never been to Charleston before, you might want to think about making it a week vacation, two or three days isn't going to be enough

But don't hink you have to have a boat to enjoy Charleston, the downtown area is full of shops and stores(search for the Charleston City Market, and King Street Shopping). Ther is plenty of site seeing with bus, walking, and cairrage tours. The USS Yorktown is across the harbor in Mt. Pleasant. They run a water taxi(friends of mine) from Charleston Harbor Resort to the Marintine Center downtown, there are Ft. Sumter tour boats that cross the harbor. The also have diner cruises. They just approved Gambling boats in N Charleston, probably won't take them long to get them running. To all the history buffs and studies of The War of Northern Aggresion, there is more than enough places to see including the Charleston Battery, Ft. Sumter, Ft Multrie, and the Hunley. Beach aeras include IOP, Folly Beach. Sulivans Island. Plenty of places to wade fish, any one want to hire a guide, let me know, I work on several guides boats. One of my favorite places to see is the Angle Oak(http://www.angeloaktree.org/), its a little ride, but neat to see. If any of ya'l chase that little white ball, Charleston and the surounding areas are eat up with golf courses. The local sea food toursit trap is Shem Creek, in Mt Pleasant. Plenty of good places to eat all around. There are two places downtown that keep placing in the top 10 places to eat nation wide. More than enough stuff to do. Thats why I warned ya'll about not having enough time to do what you want, especially if you've never been here adn are driving a long way

heres one solution for some one with out a V http://charleston.craigslist.org/boa/2036966536.html

last weekend will work for me as well, heck I live here, any weekend will work for me. Thats why we need ya'lls input, I can work around just about any weekend. But check the hotel prices, the closer you get to the first weekend in April, the higher they get. That first weekend, you won't be bale to find thing under $100 a nite, and those will be the crappy places. Once we get an idea of how many are coming, I've got a couple of ideas to keep us busy.

Naaa..take no offense Spare.. When I said ALL, I meant all... meaning that both North and South were finally united and no more blood was going to be spilt. People from the South could cross the Mason-Dixon going Northwards, and people from the North could cross the Mason-Dixon going Southwards without having to worry about getting shot.

Don't forget that I used to live in the South (St. Mary's. Georgia) and while my roots may be in the North there's a lot of affection in my heart for Southern folk. (and you can;'t hardly beat a good dry rub )

If any one wants to arrive earlier in the week, I'm thinking about a run from Lake Moultrie down to the harbour.Friday morning thing. Its about 50 miles by water. ramps are plentiful, I can get some one to shuttle us all back to the trucks after we tie up downtown. Unfortunately, where I live is in a flood zone. End of March thru all of April is prime time for spring floods. It usually is just an annoyance for me (access roads closed kinda thing) but we've had two really nasty floods in the last 4 years. Last year, due to a sump pump failing and a faulty gasket on a barrier I awoke to 24" of water in my basement. I'm still counting losses and repairing damage from that flood. Bottom line is I simply cannot take the chance of being away from the house during that time period. I'd love to go, but I'll have to pass.

One reason we arn't having this during warmer months is I'm too busy fixing peoples boats when its nice to enjoy boating, second, the hotel rates skyrocket around here when it gets warmer, third, we won't be able to use the marina when it gets warmer, fourth, you can't get the good oysters(from Bluffton) when it gets warmer. We have nice days in March, and we have cold windy days. Its a crap shoot. I'll find something to do with the boats regardless of the weather.

Any one bringing a bigger boat, the offshore Tuna bite gets going good during March, plenty of Dolphin out there to. Best place is about 70 miles out of the harbor, second best place is about 50. Better have good weather to try it.

Any hotels in downtown Charleston are going to be really high and boat parking will be limited. Still trying to figure out what we are doing..

Looks like dad and I will be running the boat down from Little River and mom and my wife will be driving down.. Guess it all depends on weather. if its "colder" i'll just trailer the boat down

Thanks for the info Spare. I guess you are staying in your own bed. I was checking out rental houses online. Not too many on the ICW. Prices started at about $1200/wk. I would still like to open some dialog on where all the snaggers are gonna hole-up. How bout you RW? Ferm? Reel? I know it is still a little off time-wise, let the official role-call begin.

I have a good friend that lives in Jacksonville that is planning on driving his RV up and we will be sleeping there is ther plan for right now... Should something come up with him last minute I will be looking for someplace close to the rest of you guys I guess. I would agree that it would be best to get everyone in as close an area as possible to facilitate the fun and games.

week of the 19th of March, I think Lumberslinger allready has reservations, For the camper guys, the camp ground at James Island County park is pretty nice, tehre is aslo camping at Bulls Bayy, kinda far away though. There is a campground on 17 N of Mt. P. The camp ground on I26 in N Charleston used to be overun with illegals. Check with Charleston County parks and recreation http://www.ccprc.com/.

"I think Lumberslinger allready has reservations" -

All I can think is man I need to clean the V. Where bouts you staying LS?

REEL- What happened to your V? Did I miss something? Either way you can ride with me. Provided I can work out the details.

I am trying to make plans to attend two boating events, back to back weekends in March. I need to plan out a fuel budget for the 250, or swap the Opti off the Whaler?? I still don't know if the missus has the time off.

I'm 95% in...btw I'll be going solo. If anyone wants to go between here and there but not bring their boat I'll be glad to pick you up along the way. (or if anyone north of here wants to drive as far as NJ and meet up)
I'll roll with you Rob. We can get a convoy going. My truck is a 4-door so I should have extra room if needed.

How about a survey - anybody bringing thier wife? I don't want to be the odd man out. If the majority is bringing the wife then so will I. If not then I might bring one of my fishing buds.

Well, just found out the wife has to work. Spring Break means lots of moms in the office looking for the same time off she was third in line. Might need to make it a quick up and back trip. Reel, the honor would be mine, you can definitely ride with me and show me around.

thats my backup plan in case the weather is blowing, figure we'd be out of the wind for the most part. If the weather is good, I'm just going to point everyone in the general direction, tell them where the sand bars and no wake zones are, give them my phone number and turn them loose. As long as everyone is back in time to eat, we'll be OK.

So what is the name of this high class joint that Slinger has reserved? Do you think any of us can afford it?

Even though I mentioned to Mrs. Blue about taking her on this trip it sounds like it is shaping up to be mostly a manfest. Gonna have to float it by her again with this new intel and see what the dealio is. There's probably going to be some room on the SS Blue Runner. Lee you are welcome to a spot...or any of you other boatless snagger-types.
