We've got some questions about that though, right now, including prehydration, chemo, and posthydration, its taking around 11 hours for her treatment, thay must begoing to change something, just one more of many questions we have for the doctors. 58 treatments to go.

The medicine is starting to affect her walking a little bit, the Doctors told us its expected as the chemicals can affect her nervious system. 56 to go. next week she only get one chemical, should take a whole lot less time.

she's on 10, six week cycles. One treatment per week, 1 chemical the first week, 2 the second thru the 4th, 1 the fifth, then five days of oral medication the sixth while she's reevaluated for the next cycle. Just found out the oral medication for 5 pills is going to run around $1200( I thought the nausa meds were high at $12 per pill). We had to make a special application to medicade to cover what blue cross won't. waiting to hear back from them.

Kendall is on her last week in the first cycle, she's doing OK, this week shes taking oral chemo, 5 pills for $1200, thank God for disabilty coverage! Shes starting to lose her hair, it doesn't bother her as much as it bothers her mother and I, its a visual reminder of whats going on with her. We've been over whelmed here lately. After my wife's sister found out she had breast cancer, my wife went and had a mamogram herself, guess what, she had to outdo her sister, we got the results back yesterday and it came back positive. We haven't gotten the lab report yet, so they are scheduling surgery for the 15th, unless we find out its more aggresive. I'm about at my full capacity, I don't know what else could happen, i told someone the other day that I'm going to hit the lottery or get hit by a truck, the sob pointed out that I could be like Earl Hickey and do both, i had to laugh at that one. See the caringbridge site for more updates. Thanks for the prayers and concerns.

Keep the faith spare. We're all praying for you and your family. In the face of doubt and uncertainty you gotta try to stay positive and keep praying for the best. You're in the middle of a marathon right now, the "wall" people hit when they feel their lowest. I know it sounds trite, but a strong positive attitude can go a real long way. You've got a wonderfully strong little girl to handle such a hard life. Use her as an example of strength. You can do it! She's strong, you and your wife are strong! You WILL get through this! We're all praying spare, good luck!
CTT, God works through tragedies. No one knows the plan or it's path, but God will make himself known through everything. It's easy to blame him for doing nothing, but trust that He is with her every step of the way, sharing His love with her. Have faith... and God does listen to everyone, no matter what your belief is, He believes in you. Try reading the book "The Shack." It really opens your mind up to a different way of living with God. It's not a "church" book, but it is a great read, and not too long. I'm not a church going person, but I believe I have a relationship with God, and this book hits home for me. Give it a try.
God bless you and your family spare. We'll be praying.

she's doing ok this week, we finshed up the oral Chemo on Sunday, she gets two weeks off before she starts the second cycle. I forgot to give her anti-nausea medicine Sunday night, and guess what we were cleaning up at 2 am. Shes a tough little girl, she handles it better than her mother and I do. She's braging now about she only says ow, and doesn't cry when they pull the needle out of her shunt. Her hair is starting to fall out pretty good now, it bothers her mother an me more than her, this is the first time since we started all this three years ago that we have a constant visual reminder of whats wrong with her, before you could forget she was sick for a moment or two. SHe is scheduled to start back on Chemo on the 16th, the day after my wife has her surgery.

had some good news today, Kendall had an X-ray Monday, and had an MRI yesterday. The x-ray was to check her spine for curavature as a result of last Novemebers surgery(they had to open up 7 vertebre so she wears a brace to straighten her spine). Her spine is improving, adn considering that shes just went thru one round of Chemo, thats big! The Chemo could cause her back porblems to get worse, so any improvement is great. We also got the results from the MRI, and the tumer has stoped growing, the checmo treatments are doing their job, she starts back on chemo next Wednesday for her second round.
Oh, and got to meet Reel face to face today, good to put a face with a screen name.

I haven't posted an update lately, between the Make A Wish trip and teh Holidays, weve been pretty busy. Kendall finished her last round of chemo and she had an MRI yesterday. Good News!!!!! The tumer has shrunk some and the fluid surounding the tumer is dissapating. I assume that we will continue with the chemo cycles, I don't know when she starts her next one, but it seems to be working. My wife had her last chemo treatment today, besides being nausous and tired, she's doing ok. The SC Port athority addopted our family this Christmas ( thanks to a freind who wrote the local radio station), they brought the girls a bunch of toys, books and a brand new bicycle for each of them. Its been a real good Christmas Season and our family has had a lot to be thankful for. I'm ready for 2009, and I ready to put a lot of 2008 memories behind me.

Its been a while since I've updated this thread. Since the last time we've all had a lot going on. In case ya'll didn't know the company I worked for closed the SC office, since then I have gone in business for my self(
[email protected]). My wife has been recovering well( if you didn't know she was diagnosed with breast cancer last September), following a double masectomy and chemo, all test show her to be clear. I have been busier than ever with my new business. We just finished up Kendall's fourth chemo cycle, and got the results from the MRI yesterday, it showed significant reduction in the size of the tumer. This is the biggest news we've had since they found the tumer(and the most positive). Previous scans showed the tumer to be 15 mm X 5 mm, its now at 9mm X 4mm. We really feel like we are getting somewhere now( praise be). Kendall is going to camp "happy days' (along with her sister) in two weeks for week of being a regular 4 year old. In case any of y'all are interested in more info on some great people, doing some great things, check the links below.

well i guess I jinxed myself for mentioning MUSC in the otehr thread, woek up this mornign to Kendall with a high fever and unable to use her left leg, so its off to the hospital for the day. As she is a chemo paitent, anytime a fever gets over 101 you go directly to the hospital. they ran a battery of test and a MRI, they still don't know what wrong, but her feer started breaking about two hours ago. I just got home about 30 min ago, called my wife(she stayed at the hospital withy Kendall, I'm here at the house with Kaylee), she tells me they are moving them to another room since they are testing her for the flu. My wife has been on bed rest since an emergency Hysterectimy three weeks ago, so go figure, the best place for her to rest is at the hospital with Kendall. I'm spending the day tomorrow with them, another weekend shot all to he11. I don't ask much out of life, I just want to go 30 days without someone in my family having to go to the hospital, this crap is getting real old! Oh well, what do you do. I'm personally going to have a tall Crown and ginger, and going to bed

Spare, we are with you. And no one can ever say we feel your pain we are here for her. Kids are everything. My step daughter just had her second surgery last Wednesday for her McCune Albright Syndrome (very rare), through the top of the head and in the danger zones... first time they had to enlarge the back of her eye socket the bone was growing and squeezing the optic nerve...it sucks and is not right that kids should have to go through this stuff.
Keep positive thoughts thats what pulls me through.
And as I've said before stay busy and do your best to keep'em smiling, it's our job and I personally wouldn't want anyone else to handle it for me.
And I will agree with you, I spend way to much time in hospitals. Haven't called out of work sick in over ten years but I am in a hospital almost every other week.

To start with my mother has completed her final chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed last Febuary, went thru surgery, and treatments. She was pronouced clear two & 1/2 months ago, but they wanted her to go thru 6 more treatments to make sure. She finished up last week and is doing well.
But the big news is, we just got the offical results from Kendall's mri she had on Tuesday. The tumer is gone!!!!!!! She will continue one more cycle of 6 treatments of chemo, but the tumer is officially gone!!!!
And last but not least, my wife is still doing well after being diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago Septemeber, She finsihed her treatments last January and is doing well.

We go back on March 17(i think) for a follow up MRI, if evrything is still clear, we are done with this chapter. We still have other issues with her that need to be addressed, but to have this behind us is great! Thanks again for all the prayers and thoughts, keep it up, its been working. well the results came back and I happy to say, my wife was wrong!!!!!(that felt good to say). There was no signs of any tumer or any new growth. What a relief. Its been roughly 6 months since the tumer was declaired gone. This will be her forth clear MRI. SHe'll have another one in about 3 months. The 6 month time frame was big for our family, as the tumer returned 6 months after her initial surgery back in 08. The next big milestone will be the two year mark. Spare, being a relative newcomer to this site I didn't know anything about your daughter's fight until now. So when I read the last few posts of this thread I had to go back and read all of them from the very beginning. It was only then that I realized the tremendous pressure that you and your family have been under. Anyone can deal with good news, but I think it's the measure of a man when you see how well he handles bad news. In my book sir, you are a giant!!
I'm a pretty religious man actually. Kendal is now added to those that are in my prayers forever. And if anyone ever says they don't believe in God or the power of prayer, I'll simply point them to this thread. God bless you!!

thanks for all teh prayers and well wishes. Ya'll don't know how much this group of boat nuts and this site mean to me. Back when Kendall was first showing signs of being sick and we didn't know what was wrong with her, they were trying to rule out alergeic reactions(it was first diagnosed as a GI issue). We had to feed her with a g-tube and a pump that went into her stomach(did this for a year). We had to mix up a hypoalergenic mush for the pump for her food. It took about 20 min for the stuff to pump into her stomach. I had first feeding and last feeding duties of the day. The last feeding would end up later than midnight. After the pump finished I would have to flush the lines and her G-tube before going to bed. If left un flushed, the mush would stop up the lines and back to the hospital we'd have to go, so it was imperative to flush her g-tube after every feeding. I spent a lot of time on the internet trying to stay awake so I'd flush the line when she was done. I was helping a good friend of mine with a Seacraft so I was on the Seacraft site alot. It amazed me the general attitude of the people on there, what a bunch of a-holes. I had come to expect it from our local fishing web site, but didn't expect it from dedicated boat enthusiast. One night I had some one I was advising about his mercruiser 165 6 cylnder. Don't know what set him off, but he posted a long drawn out line of dribble criticizing my spelling and grammer, apparantly he'd never heard of wind talking. It just hit me wrong, this guy didn't know anything about me or my family, or what we were going thru, I wasn't looking for sympathy, I was just sharing my 24 years of being a professional boat mechanic and was trying to give him some good advise. I was about to fall asleep typing, which would account for some of my spelling and grammer issues, but who cares? I started to flame his a$$ with a response, but just responded with "never mind". This was about the time I bought my V and had found this site, I never looked back. Sadly, I still haven't had time to finish my V(I did finish the Mckee though), but I enjoy posting on this site every chance I get. I've visited a bunch of boat sites, and am a memeber on several. I'd have to say this is the best group of people on any of them. My familly and I have been through quite a lot the past four years, its been a great for me to have a place to unwind. My self and my familly both appreaciate the support, prayers, well wishes, and general companionship of the V20 site. Thanks to all of ya'll.
PS, don't forget to visit the Caring Bridge, Couragious Kidz and Camp Happy Days sites.
Deystroyer, I'll see if I can find the pics to the chemo bell, my wife rotated them out of the pics on the caring bridge site.

Been a while since I've updated this thread. All of ya'll that read the caring bridge site are probably up to date. Febuary 23 was one year since Kendall finished chemo. man this year has flown by. She's doing good. She finally had a "normal" medical issue and had to have her tonsils taken out. I gave her the same BS talk my parent gave me when I had mine taken out as a kid, you know, "you can have all the ice cream you want after they take them out" yeah, like you can swallow anything after they take them out. She was supposed to have her first T-ball game this Saturday with the Summerville Miracle league, but she'll be on the sidelines mending her throat. We still have some issue with her back(wears a back brace at night), and she still suffers from exema flair ups, but other than a limp(wears a leg brace), you'd never know she has been thru what she has. Thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers, from the Hall familly.

A little over a week ago, my wife asked me what I was doing four years ago, it took me a minute, but I remembered that I was in a hospital, trying to understand that my 3 year old daughter had just been diagnosed with a tumor in her spine. The next four years have been a blur, 1 big spinal surgery, paralyzed from the waist down, learning to walk again, 6 months of false hope, a regrown tumor, 26 months of chemo( and a whole bunch of other stuff), shes now close to being two years clear. My wife being the persistent mother she is wasn't satisfied to wait till the next scheduled scan, shes been worrying about Kendall lately, the anniversary of her diagnosis looming over head, every little thing my wife questions as possibly a result of a tumor growing back. She was concerned enough(the doctors were also) that they scheduled a scan yesterday of her spine and brain(its been a little tense around here lately). I'm happy to say the results came back clear!:sun: Thanks again to the Wellcraft V20 group for all the continued support, prayers and well wishes.

First of all, Kendall is OK, I know some of ya'll get a bit nervous when you see this thread come up.
During our family's enduring adventure of dealing with a child that has cancer, we've come across other families that have endured similar journeys. One family in particular has become really close to our family, The Simao's. Their son, Erik(17) was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 8 years old, he underwent surgery, radiation and chemo to be declared cancer free two years ago. Since then, he's had a small growth appear on his neck, they classified it as benign and operated on it. Because it was so close to a major artery, they couldn't remove it all, so he started oral chemo last spring. He's being doing good and enjoying his senior year in high school. He started having head aches around Thanksgiving, after a few test, they decided to do an MRI, they found a reoccurance of the original brain tumor at the top of the brain stem. He's in the hospital now, they are going to wait till Monday to operate. He's doing OK, facing this as a person with maturity far beyond his age. His father was laid off from his job only two weeks ago. His mother is having a real hard time with this. My wife and his mother are best friends, its as if its one of my children in the hospital. My girls think of Erik as their big brother. My family was in this same spot the fall of 08, I've been there with a sick child, a worried wife, and no job. Its not a good place to be in, especially during the holidays, i swear it seems like this happens to some one I know every fall. I've learned that in the toughest times, people show their true worth and come together to support and help each other. Keep Erik, Barbara & Ed in your prayers. Its not an easy or short path, they've been there before, but it doesn't make it any easier. Please visit this page http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003208457730
and Keep them in your prayers.

What I do want to say is how special it was to see Kendall the other day and have her ride around in the truck w/me and you and see her playing around the house...so smart and full of life and she seemed to get a big kick out of Kate and Banks chase ea/other around the yard...she is fun to listen to cuz she's so attentive to things...like tellin' YOU how to put the carbs back on the motor...and tellin' it RIGHT!!...

Ah ha..... The secret to Spares mechanical genius has finally leaked out. It's been Kendal all along. From now on I'm taking all my work straight to her.. who needs a middleman? :you:
Erik and his family are now in my prayers. We went through this same cancer with my son-in-law a few years back. So far he's been clean, but there's always that fear in the back of your mind that it's going to rear it's ugly head again.

My wife added it up today, so far Kendall has had 70 MRI scans, each time she goes for an MRI, they do 4 scans. Thats a lot for an 8 year old. She had her check up scans today, all is clear, everything is good, we go back in 4 months.
Eric has had some complications, they did a scan and are unsure if its scar from the gamma knife or growth. He's had some pressure and is pretty weak, They've changed his chemo and are monitoring it.
For any of ya'll up towards Charlotte, they had the prom for all the kids at the BOA building downtown. Its sponsored by The Sand Box http://gotsandbox.org/. Check out the link to the pics http://www.facebook.com/GotSandbox. Eric was voted prom King, Kendall ended up taking the crown and scepter from him

5 years ago today, my wife and I were shuttled into a small office with no windows, inside we were met by a neurosurgery, our pediatrician, and a tumor specialist. we were wondering, whats a neurosurgeon doing here. The pediatrician, couldn't even look at us as they explained that Kendall had a tumor, the word cancer was never spoken, they told us it was just a low grade benign tumor. I think it was about 12 hours later that the shock wore off. After two years of not knowing what was wrong with her, we had an answer, but it wasn't the answer we were expecting. That was a long hard day! We danced around the subject of cancer, never uttering the words, wonder what laid ahead for our family. Finally we came out right and asked, its hard to explain what a simple 6 letter word will do to a family. Its something you never want to hear about anyone you know, let alone a 3 year old child of your own. 5 years later, its all a blur, the operations, the tumor coming back, the chemo, my wife's own battle(not mention my mother and sister in law). My wife and I were thinking, how did we get thru this? ... With prayer and God's help, support from our friends and family, and a great little web site about a 40 year old boat. Thanks!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...yours is the strongest family I know...you guys have been to the mountain and peered over the other side...and come out stronger because you stayed together and would not let it defeat you...Kendall could not be in better, more protective hands...

Dear Lord, we pray for Aiden and his family just as your Word tells us to pray, for healing. I believe you hear this earnest prayer from our heart and that it is powerful because of your promise. I have faith in you, Lord, to heal Aiden, but I also trust in the plan you have for his life.
Lord, we don't always understand your ways. We don't know why Aiden and his family has to suffer, but we trust you. We ask that you look with mercy and grace towards them. Nourish their spirit and soul in this time of suffering and comfort them with your presence.
Let them know you are there with them through this difficulty. Give them strength. And may you, through this difficulty, be glorified in his life and also in ours. Amen.

My moms in the hospital with a blocked small intestine and possibly (probably) will not make it. Every day for the last week has been a battle and we almost lost her tonight. But she's 94 and has had a wonderful, full life. When I read about Aiden I realize just how blessed we, as a family, have been. My prayers continue to go out to him and his family. Kendall had a scheduled check up MRI yesterday and the results came back clear, she is having some issues with soreness in her neck(glands) that could be related to her eczema. We are very thankful of good result on the MRI, every time she has one scheduled, we are on pins and needles till we get the results back.
Eric is doing well but is having some issues, The tissue in the area around where his tumor was is still eroding, its supposed to stop at the tumor, they have changed his chemo to see if it helps
Aiden has been up and down, he's had good days and bad. He is starting another round of chemo today and is very apprehensive about it. Its a lot for a 10 year old to take in. He takes a lot of pain medicine and has problems keeping food/fluids down. Keep him and his family in your prayers

I just read a program from Aidan's Funeral Mass(we didn't make it), I thought you guys would like this, it was the opening comments
I am standing on the seashore. A ship at my side, spreads his white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean, He is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch him until, at length, he hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then some one at my side says, " There he is gone." Gone where? gone from my sight. That is all. He is just as large in mast, hull and spar as he was when he left my side. And he is just as able to bear his load of living freight to his destined port. His diminished size is in me-not in him. And just at the moment when someone says, "There he is gone," there are other eyes watching him coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout. "Here he comes" And that is dying...

This is a wonderful sentiment. I hope that Aiden's family and friends can find peace in the knowledge that death is a transition and not an end.

Kendall just had a scheduled scan and it came back all clear. Were are now scheduling her scan once a year, we've come a long way.
It is with great sadness that I must say my mother's battle with cancer is coming to a conclusion. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January of 09, the day my wife finished chemo. They stopped giving her chemo about a month ago and hospice has been called in. She is bed ridden and heavily medicated. I've been back up to Raleigh the past couple of weekends and her condition is worsening. Today my parents are celebrating their 60th anniversary, give them congratulations for 60 years together and pray for them both.
