Kendall just had a scheduled scan and it came back all clear. Were are now scheduling her scan once a year, we've come a long way.
It is with great sadness that I must say my mother's battle with cancer is coming to a conclusion. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January of 09, the day my wife finished chemo. They stopped giving her chemo about a month ago and hospice has been called in. She is bed ridden and heavily medicated. I've been back up to Raleigh the past couple of weekends and her condition is worsening. Today my parents are celebrating their 60th anniversary, give them congratulations for 60 years together and pray for them both.

You bring a tear to my eye, I sat by my mothers bed and healed her hand, told her stories and told her Dad was waiting for her on the 1st tee.. it is the hardest thing I have ever done. It will be a year on October 08. I still miss my parents. I am 55 years old, who would have thought.

Spare, having just lost my mom a few months back I know exactly what you are going through. You have to remember to temper the pain of the loss with the realization that she will no longer be in that horrible pain. I know it's a hard thing, but it really helped me get through it, because it's true. Sending continuous prayers for her, you and your family. God bless

Sorry to hear About mom!!
This was my mothers card, and I hope its good for you as it was for me!

Don't Grieve for me,For now I am free:
I took his hands when I heard him call:
I turned my back and left it all.
If parting has left a void,Then fill it with remembered joy.
My life's been full, I savored much:
Good friends, good times,
A loved ones touch,A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss:
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief:
Lift up your hearts and share with me:
God wanted me now,He set me free!

I spent some time with my father last weekend, way over due. I think he's going to be OK, its never going to be like it was, but I think he will adjust to it. My niece brought him a dog, a 4 year old boxer/pointer mix. She does dog adoptions and once a week she goes by the dog pound and tries to get a dog a foster home. So far, the dog is working out pretty good. I'm staying home this weekend to get caught up on some work, but plan to meet my father at his place in Sneeds Ferry, NC(behind N Topsail Island) next weekend, I've got to get his well boat back up and running, probably mow the grass and work on the dock a bit as well. We've been thankful with the report on Kendall, be we have been saddened to find out our friend Eric is not doing well, he had a stroke earlier this week and they've taken him off all chemo and treatment, it doesn't look to good right now. Not much anyone can say Spare. Horrible news about your sister. Very sorry to hear it and of course and will include her in my nightly list of prayers for people from this site.

GREAT news about Kendall!!!!! I still cannot imagine what it's like to have a child diagnosed with cancer, and pray I never will. But it gives me such great hope everytime I hear of her and her story.

Wow, been a while since I posted anything on this thread. Kendall has been doing good, no major issues or reoccurence since she finished chemo 8 years ago. She still goes to therapy twice a week and will probably have to have a rod put in her spine soon to correct the curvature as a result of her surgery. She just started high school this past week just to let you guys know how long you've been following this thread. Weve got a fishing tournament coming up next week and will be hunting this fall. I'll post up some pics when I get time

My oldest, Kaylee just started college, shes going to Winthrop in Rock Hill, studying to be a pediatric physical therapist, as there were none in our area when Kendall needed one, Kaylee was 8 at the time and made her mind up then as what she wanted to be. I could not be any more prouder of her

It’s hard to believe it’s been 8 years - my wife and I prayed long and hard for her and you guys. It’s great to hear that she’s doing well and getting out with Pop for some hunting and fishing. Kids never forget those times and the relationship you build is money in the bank during adolescence and for the rest of your lives.

I forgot to mention, Kendall had her back surgery last summer, she's got two rods attached to her spinal column, don't know if she'll be ready for a boat ride this spring, but otherwise she's doing good. She starts at Winthrop next fall, my oldest(Kaylee) starts her masters program this summer. She changed her major to child health, she will end up working with sick kids in the hospital(giving back).

i went back thru this thread, and I'll have to admit, it gets a little emotional remembering some of it. I was going thru all the great comments, and hate most of those members aren't around any more.

It’s good for Kaylee that she has a loving family. I’d think it would be pretty hard work dealing with sick kids all day. I was talking with a county detective a while back, just off patrol and into the detective business, mostly dealing with badly treated kids - very tough job, but with a chance to really make a difference.

Hard to see sick kids, but rewarding to be able to be helpful.

Please tell Kendall we’re praying for her again for speedy recovery and some boat time with her Pop.

Hit a milestone last week, We dropped Kendall of at Winthrop University in Rock Hill SC, to start her freshman year. Seemed just like yesterday that she was going thru all her illness. Been a long, hard ride for sure. She is joining her older sister that is in Graduate school at Winthrop. After getting Kendall settled in, the wife and I drove to Sneads Ferry and enjoyed a long weekend, mostly watching it rain. It softened the blow a bit that both my girls are off to college, got an empty nest now. Hopefully I'll have more time to fish now.

Spare, please send my congratulations to Kendall and my congratulations to you on the new empty nest! Our 2nd daughter just graduated from UNCW and took a position as an art teacher in Greensboro NC. We got to enjoy an empty nest for a solid 4 years, but now the nest has been filled again as she moved back home for a while until she gets the next chapter figured out. Our oldest daughter graduated a couple years ago from NC State and has been a math teacher in Winston-Salem NC ever since. She and her high school sweetheart got married in 2020. I'm so proud of both of them (and my son in law)! Also proud of me and my wife for making it through all of the struggles that go along with raising children. Hats off to you and your wife for raising your daughter right and for all of the extra things y'all had to deal with along the way. Now sit back and enjoy the empty nest and figure out how you are going to pay for all the tuition, books, rent, meal plans, transportation, power bills, etc. etc. etc. etc. Just kidding - sort of...I'm sure you either have a plan or will figure it out. LOL

Who says prayers don't work? Kendall is a great example of their power. Happy she got through her back surgery ok and great she's starting school.
This has been a long, emotional thread full of ups and downs. Happiness for kids that made it, sadness for those that fought their last battle. All will forever remain in my prayers. Thank you for sharing this with us Spare. Much love to Kendall and all the kids. <3
