Does anyone have flint rock in their area?

I need some to fool around with some primitive knife making. I know some of yall may have lots of rock in your area, not down here just red clay dirt. LOL

According to google there are several rocks around here that are good for arrowheads and knives.... All I personally ever see are sex stones.

stink, my bil used to practice making points with broken toilet tank lids. he said the porcelain flakes a lot like flint.

Stink, I know that the Lenape Indians used to make knives, spears and arrowheads from the fine grained stones around here. Flint and some other stones. According to legends, they used Flint as well as Chert, Feldspar, Quartz and Jasper. Bevans Rock Shelter in Sandyston is one of the places that they lived/stayed in (they were Nomadic) and they also got their rocks from the Skylands area (not far from me) as well as other places in Northern New Jersey. It's way too cold for me to go traipsing through the Skylands woods and mountains right now, but I'll ask my brother (who lives in Sandyston) if there are any places that he knows of near him as a source for flint.

I know it is very rocky around here, and I know people find arrow heads all over the place, but I have no idea which rocks to send you, any idea?

RB I think flint isn't really found in our specific area. When you find flint it is mostly deposited here (left behind) by the natives as a by-product of thier tool making. Further toward the mountains it is more common.

Now if you ever get up to Morrow Mountain in Albemarle the place is covered in rhyolite which was a major quarry for native peoples in NC. Points made from Morrow Mountain rhyolite have been found from Florida to Maine due to the trading that they did.

Stink, I haven't forgotten, but there's been a coating of about 1" of snow on the ground for the past week. Impossible to see anything on the ground right now. As soon as the weather breaks a little and the ground clears I'll go hunting for you.
