Default Hey Spare ?

my 250 Wellcraft had OMC auto primer pumps and they aren't working quite right where or what do the newer boats use or have for primers in place of the hand primers? can you use a 2.5 to 4 lb 12 volt fuel pump in line under deck or in the transom pass box?

can you use something like this inline?

something like this is inline currently on both motors from the old OMC Sea-Drives

Skools, I don't see any reason you couldn't use those, but to be honest, I'd leave them out and just hook up regular primer bulbs(use johnrude bulbs, they're the best for the $). repalce the anti siphon valves with new ones, that will keep the fuel line from siphoning dry back in the tank, and put the bulbs between your water sep filters and the engine. You shouldn't have any problem with it. We ran a simular set up to feed Merc XRI motors on high performance set ups, but it was to assure it wouldn't run lean on top end

BTW, check you pms

btw, what mpdel seadrives were on that thing, we used to sell them in Raleigh on Proline boats, i can't remember any of teh ones we had having electric primer pumps. i know the all v8s(seadrive, johnson, evinrude)came with them, but i don't remeber any of the ones we sold having a primer pump. DO you think some one added them?

i guess they could have offered them as an option, I know they were standard on teh V8's. Only concern about those pums is meeting USCG requirements and if they are corrosion resistant. Could use the low pressure bosch style pumps like they use on mercruiser carb I/Os

since they weren't set to run all the time should they have run only like 30 sec to prime before starting then turn off to crank and run without using them? i've never seen this setup before.

I saw they were USCG approved after I made that post. And yes, they were only used to prime the system, they didn't run all the time. I might have manual on them, I'll see if I can dig it up.

skools, i used to fish with a buddy who had a mid 80's sportcraft with a 4 cyl seadrive and he had a similar fuel pump . he would press the button on the console until the pump got quiet, to prime the system. instead of squeezing the ball. maybe with the closed in transoms, just too hard to get to the primers on certain boats?

hum that's what this was an OMC Sea-Drive boat. what size fuel inlet / outlet would you say use for these 225's as primers on the pumps? i guess the motors fuel pump will suck gas thru the primer pump.
