I used to catch them all the time when Cod fishing out of the Rhode Island fishing fleet, in about 100 ft of water. Never one that big, but they are good fighters. We all kept throwing them back until one of the mates on the boat stopped us and offered to clean one up for us, We took it home with all of the Cod fillets and steaks and when I finally ate the conger eel (after much debate) , I realized that I was throwing back the wrong fish. Thery taste better than Cod.
